IS stands for "integrated system", and is so-named because the the IS
design uses no cups. Instead, the bearings rest inside the head tube of
the bikes frame, which has been specifically designed to cradle the
bearings. An IS headset cannot be retrofitted to an existing bike with traditional, pressed-in external headset cups.

This is your basic enclosed bearing IS headset which is a good value. Easy to install and it results in a smooth steerer. That said, I have also used the Cane Creek 40 headset and it is definitely superior, especially the quality of the seals. Each person needs to decide if moving up is worth it. I use the 40 for my bikes and the basic IS-3 for bikes I build for sale. You can't go wrong with either one but if you ride a lot in the rain and/or store your bike in a shed or garage, get the 40. The 110 is for people who have money to burn but I am sure it is fantastic but I'll never know.

I got this as a replacement for the stock headset on my fixie. The quality of the headset is high and it is extremely smooth. I was pleasantly surprised by the low price and you can't go wrong with this headset in my opinion.

I replaced a popping headset bearing set that was bike brand after three yrs of service with this Cane Creek. The Cane Creek is better bearings and has seals and shims the knock-off didnt. This install took 30 mins Remove the old "race" from fork crown when installing.
