After several thousand miles on the trainers in the basement for several years, I couldn't take it anymore. Last year I bought my wife a Niterider Trinewt light for commuting and began riding outside at night with that, which was great, but a hassle to keep moving the light between the bikes. Bought this light from Jenson and it is a significant upgrade.

I use the 500 lumen setting and that provides a fantastic amount of light on dark unlit roads. Oncoming traffic always dim their high beams when facing this light, but I haven't been flashed yet either.

The battery is small, but would require I think at least a 140mm stem to fit there. It works great on the top tube, but the provided extension cable you need to use is pretty long. They provide velcro fastners that, once you figure the right placement for, tuck the excess cord away neatly.

The light is not inexpensive, but is a very good deal for what you get.

I got this light so I could ride at night during the shorter winter days, and during the summer when the temps are three digits. I ride mostly bike lanes and bike paths on a TREK 7500. I also use this bike as my commuter. At full power (750) the battery is good for about 1 1/2 hours; at the lower setting it's good for 3+ hours. The light is bright/white and renders good contrast and colors so it's easy to see whatever junk or hazard is in front of you. Also there is no doubt that you will be seen by cars and pedestrians! The battery mounts separate from the beam so a hard bump doesn't spoil the setting like some heavier lights with self contained batteries. The whole set up is well made and shows excellent quality; however it may be a bit expensive for some but it's also very easy to switch from bike to bike (I have three) so you can argue that you really only need one headlight setup. Even at the 300 lumen setting there's plenty of light for most settings; I use the higher setting for our bike lanes. They're poorly lit and It's easier to pick out the runners and walkers wearing ear buds. I haven't tried it off road yet but I'm guessing it will be just fine. Don't forget to add a bright tail light!
