Decided to go with a Niner air 9 as my first ever bike build and first ever 29er. Paired this frame with some American Classic wheels and Reba RL front fork and some good old xtr bits. Having used a clunky 30 pounds FS bike for over 5 years, I didn't really notice the slow acceleration of the 29er wheels. To be honest, it almost feels like cheating considering how much easier and less effort was required to go over technical sections. I love the Hardtail feel on this thing as it reminds me of my first HT I owned. I know on most 29ers the BB sits below the hub center which is the case for this frame. Only issue I had with this is when the pedals/crank (175mm) would clip an obstacle that my FS would have cleared. I am 5 10 and purchased a medium bike without any sizing issues.

I purchased a Niner Air 9 frame and the frame had an Easton die stamp product logo on the side of the top tube and an Easton die stamp product logo on the side of the down tube. The product description didn't mention anything about the frames being factory seconds, blemished or just close outs. The paint didn't even fill in the die stamps of the Easton logos. I would think product quality control would be a little better for this product. The die stamps are easily noticable. If Niner isn't going to cut the die stamps off the end of the tubes before they put them in the jig for welding the least they could do is put them on the bottom of the tubes so they would be less obvious. I decided to keep the frame rather than dealing with the hastle of boxing it back up and paying the shipping to return the frame. I figured that the cable routing will help hide the die stamp on the top tube. I figure that after riding the frame for a while the rock chips and dust will make the die stamp on the down tube less noticable as well. There is one bright side. If anyone asks you what Easton tubing is used on the frame you can read the Easton tubing product code die stamped below the Easton logo die stamp on the side of the down tube.

Comments about Niner Air 9 Frame 2011:
Built one as my racer and another as my SS. Can't say enough good things about this frame. Super light, stiff, facing already done on bb and steerer tube.

Comments about Niner Air 9 Frame 2011:
This frame has it all. Stiff, light, beautiful.
Component set is key to the total package, but this frame is the perfect foundation.
I have no regrets and will be sticking with Niner for my future frame purchases.

I love the round tubes and the scandium frame. Ordered another frame since they NO longer make this one.

Comments about Niner Air 9 Frame 2011:
I built up this frame as an XC racing bike for my first season of racing. I never thought a bike could improve my riding this much. This bike can climb! no complaints whatsoever. I had a 29er before, but now I'm sold on Niner. They know how to design a bike with big wheels. XL frame built up with a SRAM drivetrain and WTB wheels (not tubeless... yet) and weighs in around 25lbs. Only weakness is that the paint chips easily. Doesn't matter too much, I like some character on my bikes. Plus they send the frame with a bottle of touch up paint.

Comments about Niner Air 9 Frame 2011:
I purchased my Niner Air 9 as a first true XC race bike and have not been dissappointed. My build includes a mix of X0 componenents, an XX race fork, and Stans Wheels -- medium sized frame total weight is just at 23 lbs. The result has been a bike that climbs really well and has been a great overall performer. My only challenge has been in tight technical race courses where an quick accleration here or there might help clear an obstical... Otherwise great!
Comments about Niner Air 9 Frame 2011:
Hard to believe how light this thing is and the finish is beautiful. I will be building it up over the winter with the carbon fork and on one midge bars. Can't wait to the 1st ride.

Comments about Niner Air 9 Frame 2011:
This frame (in Grey) is beautiful. High-end finish.
The headtube, BB and disc tab were all prepped and ready to go. No need for chasing / facing. This amount of care is highly unusual for a mail-order frame. It results in a better assembly and, in turn, a better ride.
Also love the little bottle of touch up paint.
Frame rides as a scandium bike should. Fast and stiff. Compliant where it needs to be.
