An incredible value in an offroad clipless pedal from Shimano! The M520 pedal features adjustable in/out release tension and includes a set of SH51 SPD cleats with 4 degrees of float. While they only weigh slightly more than the higher-end XT and XTR pedals from Shimano, they boast all of the same features and the same high-grade performance at a fraction of the price. These pedals will serve you well and wont break the bank. Dual sided mechanism lets you easily clip in with a simple step, without looking down at your shoes.
Compatible with shoes drilled with SPD compatible (2 bolt) drilling, but can be used with 3-bolt (Road style) shoes with the use of cleat adaptors.
| Weight: | 370 grams (weight does not include cleats) |
| Float: | 4 degrees |
| Material: | Aluminum, Chromoly Spindle |

Huge difference
Such better control when compared to flat pedals. If you're thinking about trying clips, you won't go wrong with these, especially at this price.

I used these almost year before I had to replace the non-crank side pedal, one of the bushings or bearings was destroyed after a couple of pedal strikes while mountain biking.
These are very good for a first timer, the engagement is easy and intuitive, and the adjustability is great and makes releasing the foot again very easy to learn. I would try these again, but would be a lot more gentle with them.

Comments about Shimano PD-M520 Pedals:
Reliable and durable. I bought these for my daughter and have purchased 4 pairs for various bikes. Easy to adjust and longer service life than off brands

Comments about Shimano PD-M520 Pedals:
i can't believe I waited so long to go with a dual sided pedal. So far so good. This pedal works great. Entry and exit is butter smooth. Reliable clipping. No worry of accidentally coming unclipped. Not quite used to the 4 degrees of float yet. I find my shoe is often rubbing on the drive side crank arm. Might just need to adjust the cleats

This is my first set of clipless pedals and I must say, I dont know how I've been riding without them. I gained 1 MPH on my home track just by putting these on my bike. You can pedal so easy with them.

For the price you can't go wrong with these pedals. Yeah, they're heavier than say an XT or XTR pedal but I doubt you'll notice the extra weight.

Comments about Shimano PD-M520 Pedals:
I've ridden these for years, and find them to be great pedals for all levels and types of riding. A bit on the heavy side, but it's pretty much their only weakness, given the low cost and reliability. Unlike lighter/more expensive pedals, you don't have to feel bad every time you smash one on a rock (I have broken one pair, but it took a lot of punishment, and the other side still worked). Their mud-shedding is very impressive.
If you can pick these up on sale, they're pretty comparable to the cost of cleats of many other pedals (and they come with cleats!).
A new pair of these pedals with new cleats have caused me sore knees before, the float on isn't the best; however, once you wear them in (and your knees get used to them), the knee pain will go away.

Comments about Shimano PD-M520 Pedals:
This is my 2nd pair.. first pair was from 2008 and it lasted about 3500 miles I'm guessing..
they are durable too.. a few years back, my bike fell off my car and it dragged on the interstate for about 15 yards.. pedals were scratched but it still worked fine
Can't complain.. durable.. cheap.. I'm not a weight weenie so those extra grams are fine with me

Comments about Shimano PD-M520 Pedals:
I've only had them out for one ride, and haven't yet adjusted the tension, but they have much more of a positive lock than my old Specialized SPDs. So far no real cons, they get the job done and don't break the bank.
