Jamis Dakar XCT Comp 2012

Jamis bicycles has a long history of innovating revolutionary bikes. This dates all the way back to 1979 with the introduction of the Earth Cruiser. The Earth Cruiser helped to spark the beach cruiser revolution. This revolution hasn’t stopped with Jamis, merely shifted focus. Today Jamis develops and produces top of the line Road and Mountain bikes. Leveraging their 30+ years of experience, Jamis is able to craft Race driven performance with trickle down for the average rider as well. Jamis has a goal to build the perfect bike, an impossible goal. To Jamis, it’s the only one worth doing.

The Jamis Dakar XCT Comp is no exception to Jamis’ quest to build the perfect bike. Jamis takes advantage of proven technologies when crafting their frames. The Kinesium Alloy frame is no exception. Boasting 130mm travel with the mp4 linkage system, the XCT Comp is super stable and performance driven. The tapered headtube allows for a stiffer front end and thus a more responsive and stable ride. Asymmetrical chainstay, cartridge bearing pivots, and a Rock Shox Monarch R high volume shock round up the features that make this frame great.

A good component build is what makes or breaks a bike. The fork outfitted on this XCT Comp is the RST Titan-15 Air. The fork boasts hydraulic lock-out with external rebound damping, tapered alloy steerer, magnesium lower legs, 32mm stanchions, and 140mm of travel. Drivetrain is just as important as anything else, so it makes sense that Jamis has selected Sram drivetrain. A Sram X.5 rear derailleur is matched up with a Sram X.5 front derailleur. Shifters a very vital as well, so it makes sense that Jamis selected the X.5 9 speed trigger shifters. All of these components work in conjunction with the Sram X.5 GXP crankset. This 3x9 drivetrain saves weight while offering a more versatile gear set.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Dakar XCT Comp Mountain Bike 2012:

Bike preformed very well, changed out some of the components (brakes, bars/stem, derailleur, converted to 1x9 drive, tires, tubeless system) to make the bike more suited to the type of riding that i do. Doesn't climb as well as my SC Blur, but has much more travel and I don't feel like im bottoming out the suspension any more. Overall a great bike for an even better price.

Sram x5 is not good at all. The back derailleur fell apart because it list is tension. Suspension has performed well so far and I have no complaints.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Dakar XCT Comp Mountain Bike 2012:

The bike is awesome and it has treated me well the past year. The rear tire is a bit of a issue for me. I have had a few washouts and spins on the uphill climbs. . I just bought a WTB Weirwolf for the rear to get more traction

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Dakar XCT Comp Mountain Bike 2012:

Great bike for the price, climbs like a champ and decends just as well. Nice plush suspension. I personally swapped out the stem for a 35mm stem, the bars for some answer pro taper 780 dh bars, took the 3rd ring on the crankset off and put a bashguard in its place, and put some wider tires.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Dakar XCT Comp Mountain Bike 2012:

This bike performs great. Compares to more expensive full suspension trail bikes. Fork & rear shock are superb. The Geax AKA tire on the rear doesn't have very good traction, however I ride in sand & loose rocks mostly. The Gato front tire performs well...no washouts yet. Not much pedal bob at all. The cx stem is too long & the handlebar is too short...do not really match the trail geometry of the frame, however I don't let that stop me. I ride it in the harsh environment of Egypt four or five times a week...sand, loose rocks, big rocks- no problem. The bike arrived tuned & set up pretty well from Jenson. All I had to do was air up the tires & rear shock after assembly. This bike looks great too. You can't see from the pics, but there are micro green metallic flakes in the paint, very nice. Quality, sturdy, good looking bike.
