Great SPD pedal for when you need to clip in and out on the trails. The design for the platform allows for the cleat to rest in properly, and for those rare times that you don't, there is enough of an outer platform to keep your feet in place.
Outer platform helps with long rides, since my MTB shoes aren't as stiff.

Comments about Shimano PD M530 SLX Trail Clipless Pedal:
Was impressed with the adjustability. Even at the loosest settings they still provide a good solid connection. the exit seems consistent and dependable.

Comments about Shimano PD M530 SLX Trail Clipless Pedal:
Purchased these as an upgrade to M520 I previously had . These are basically M520 pedals with a platform built onto the pedal. It is noticeably more stable and gives me better control and handling on technical sections. My foot is less fatigued and I can go further . Really can't go wrong with these, highly recommend them. Yes they are slightly heavy but really when you're having fun on the trail who cares ?

Comments about Shimano PD M530 SLX Trail Clipless Pedal:
Purchased these to upgrade from the M-520's I already have. These are basically the same pedals "M-520" but with a platform included to give the rider better stability and more surface area to "Hammer Down". Would highly recommend these to anyone who needs more pedal area for all day rides and or doesn't want to pay the higher price for the XTR or XT version of the similar design.

Technically switching these for egg beaters was a big downgrade but it turned out to be a huge upgrade, highly recommended!

Comments about Shimano PD M530 SLX Trail Clipless Pedal:
This is a great pedal set for either the beginner or a more advanced rider. I ride mountain trails 5-6 times a week and put some serious miles on a bike; also I am not the lightest rider in the world and these pedals have held up great. The strength adjustments make it easy for a first timer to learn clipping in and out. The platform is not huge but adds some stability to long downhills and jumps. The drawback to having the platform is clipping in, with a cheaper shoe it is more difficult to get the cleats in the right spot. The platform also makes it easy for quick test rides in sneakers or if you find yourself in a technical section that is above your experience level you can clip out and be ready if things go bad. These are not the lightest pedals in the world so if you are a gram weenie might want to look else where.

Comments about Shimano PD M530 SLX Trail Clipless Pedal:
Bought these in the store after looking at the whole line of SPDs. The cage is more useful than you think. I almost went 647, but couldn't justify the extra weight/cost. If I need to unclip and place my foot just on top, I still get decent control. I'll only do that on especially loose/sketchy parts, or on downs I'm unfamilar with. Definately not a platform, but if you are riding trails and need a quick section of being clipped out, the cage isn't too bad.
Clipped in, SPDs are the best. great adjustment, and although its "only" SLX, the weight penalty isnt huge. I've been on them for awhile, they've taken some hard pedal strikes, and a couple wrecks. Zero problems. I'll probably buy these again (or move up the line). Doubt they'll fall aprt anytime soon tho.

Comments about Shimano PD M530 SLX Trail Clipless Pedal:
I chose this Shimano530 for my second bike. I didn't want to spend a lot of money like I did with the big brother "XTR".
It surprised me that this thing is better pedal than I expected. I was kind of skeptical at first but not anymore.
It's light, comfortable to clip in/out, rugged, strong for abuse...I don't know what else I have to say. The price is really great, very affordable.
You still be able to ride comfortably even though you're not wearing SPD shoes. This is why I chose this kind of pedal over CrankBrothers Candy or EggBeater or even the little sister Shimano520. If you're first timer on clip pedal, don't be afraid...go get them.
This is the BEST affordable pedal that I highly recommended as a mountain biker friend.

Excellent pedal for the money. I have mine on a Stumpjumper FSR and like the extra platform when trying to clip in. Also, I can ride these with regular shoes when I'm just goofing around with the kids and not on trails. Only downside is weight.

Easy to clip and unclip. Platform is nice when you need support while ridding uncliped. Got them for a low price and was surprised at how solid they feel. Got them in white to match my bike.
