First off, I ordered this last minute for a MTBing/Hiking trip to VT, and JensonUSA got it to me fast and I got a great deal. Awesome!
This is my first hydration pack, and before buying I looked at a lot of different models and brands. I wanted something that would be compact enough to carry enough fluid, food and gear for short or long rides. I'm not hung-up on brands, so it being a Camelbak, in an of itself, didn't really factor into my decision. It just seemed that when all was said and done the M.U.L.E. turned out to be the best fit for what I was looking for.
It is pretty compact and comfortable, even when I loaded it up for a 5 hour ride. Out on the trails, I didn't much notice I even had it on. The 3 liter bladder is great: not so heavy or bulky, no discernable sloshing, mouthpiece works great, etc. It is really easy to work with and clean too. I washed it out before the first use with a hot (tap) water soak, and the denture tablet cleaning method, and I had no problems at all with any plastic taste. I also found that water stayed pretty cool even after a few trail hours on an 80 degree day.
You can tell the folks at Camelbak really put some thought into the design of both the pack and bladder. The whole unit is really high quality and I'm impressed with the little details, down to things like the colored stitching on the zipper pulls to identify the compartment (e.g. blue drop for bladder). The only minor nit I have is that while they put a useful shroud over the small compartment for your valuables to keep moisture out, I think it could be tweaked to not ride so tight to the zipper, as I got the shroud caught in the zipper on more than one occasion.
There's a decent amount of helpful tips on the Camelbak website too for getting the most out of your hydration pack. Take a little time to check it out, well worth it.
Overall, I am wicked happy with the M.U.L.E. and highly recommend. Kudos to JensonUSA and Camelbak.

Overall a decent product
I use this for mountain biking. Inside material seems cheap, but overall not bad.

The MULE is perfect for that 3-5 hour ride/hike. The updated hydration system makes it that much better as well. Coming from the old system, all the components are modular, easier to clean and open. Camelbak listens to the customers compliant and suggestions and designs a pack around that. Good job CamelBak!

I love the Mule for mountain biking and hiking. It's the perfect size for me. Now that the bladder is easy to open and close it's pretty near perfect.

well made. zipper and stitching is good quality but would probably opted for the larger pack for fitting more stuff. but works well for what I bought it for. would have liked the newer bladder that has a ring to keep it open to dry easier.

Comments about Camelbak M.U.L.E. Hydration Pack 2012:
This is the right pack for most any riding situations. It's expandable to allow for jackets, body armor, etc. Has plenty of pockets for tools, first aid kit and your phone. I have two of these in different colors and both are holding up fine and have put in the washer with no problems.
Comments about Camelbak M.U.L.E. Hydration Pack 2012:
The stitching on the back was already coming apart. However, it is just a pocket and it seems to be holding. It is not worth my time and energy to return it.
