The concave surface is subtle, but quite noticeable. The other design element that I like is the distance the platform is from the crank. Some light pedals sacrifice in the axle length to save weight and you end up with a platform that is too close to your cranks and your size 11's hanging over the outside of the platform. Not a problem with this pedal.

I am new to MTB and I am not ready for clip ins. I bought these because I trust the Shimano brand and Saint is the best they make for the riders who use flat pedals. They are better than the Wellgos that came stock on my bike. They are larger, they don't bend and I have no doubt that they will take anything that I can put them through. I also like that the pins go through the pedal instead of screwing into them.
There are three things that I don't like about the pedals however, the first issue is that the pins seem a little short even after taking out the spacing washers. The second issue is something that I will probably adjust to, they aren't as large as I expected. They do give the measurement, but it's hard to picture the size of something under your foot, without it under your foot. The third nit I'm going to pick is that instead of making a cool looking pedal, they painted them to look similar to a cool looking pedal. I understand that bling doesn't last long on a pedal and these are cheap(relatively) for hardcore(relatively) flats. I also appreciate that they put the money into the utility side of the equation, but a little bling goes a long way toward preventing buyers remorse.
The Saints are good quality pedals that I would probably put on the "probably buy again" list, but they definitely don't make the "gotta have" list. I also don't see myself ever spending more than this on pedals either.

Comments about Shimano MX80 Saint Pedals:

I think these are some of the best non clip less pedals you can get. Normally I'm an All-Mountain / Free Ride mountain biker and started having knee problems because of the clip less pedals I've always used. But since I switched to the Saints I haven't noticed any difference except that I can bail quicker when needed. Bottom line is these are pedals are great, even for the price. Cheers

Great traction. I removed the pin spacers, and that helped me with the grip. Nice, wide platform. Good looking pedal too, even though that is not really important.

Comments about Shimano MX80 Saint Pedals:

I used these for some intermediate trails as the first use. They gripped well, no pedal strikes on any climbs or descents...foot never flew off except once due to rider error. They are Shimano brand pedals...the brand is known for a reason. Can't go wrong as far as I can tell.

Comments about Shimano MX80 Saint Pedals:

These are nice pedals. They are very durable and offer a lot of grip with your shoes. I took the washers out to make the studs longer and they are just right for me. As with most Shimano stuff they are high quality, big upgrade over the cheap OEM pedals that came on my bike.

These MX80 Saint platform pedals are nearly perfect. Convex surface designed so your shoe finds the center and is well supported. The pins really grip your soles. Like 'em a lot.

Comments about Shimano MX80 Saint Pedals:

These pedals are extremely wide, which is perfect if, like me, you are using large shoes like 5.10 karvers. They are built to withstand everything and are surviving large jumps and brutal drops with my 200 pound weight on them. Unlike other pedals the spinning motion on them is dampened and stops quickly on its own. This is useful if you do no footers or just slip off as it is easier to land on a stationary pedal. The dampening is mild and adjustable though, and doesn't impact pedaling.

Comments about Shimano MX80 Saint Pedals:

Unboxed noticed the extra weight that these pedals had. They also have like a bushing or something that run through them and that sits over the axel of the pedal(not needed) that's the bad design.
3 runs down mountain creek bike park and they started coming apart.
Spank Spike are the way to go.

Comments about Shimano MX80 Saint Pedals:

Made the switch from clipless to flats. I won't go back to clipless! Paired with 5/10 shoes, these pedals stick to your feet. I feel more attatched to my bike now than before. Confidence inspiring straight out of the box. Large platform lets me keep my shoes away from the crank arms. Shimano pedals have never let me down (4th pair); so I decided to give these a go. I couldn't be happier with my first purchase from Jenson. The price was better than I could get at my LBS. If you're on the fence about these pedals, go for them. I did have to remove the washers from the pins. They were a little too short. Pictures don't do them justice. They are a little heavy. Once you're riding you don't really notice the weight.

These pedals are great!! When I got the I thought the pins were a little short so I took the spacers out when I added in the side pins. I had them on my bike when I went to the Sea Otter Classic. I was wearing a pair of casual dress Diesel shoes and they stuck to the pedals like glue!! I was amazed. I might quit using my clips now.
