The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is price. Even though I got it on sale I still feel that the MSRP for this pedal is too high.

I acknowledge that it's a quality built pedal but my past platform pedals cost me less and have stood up for over 3+ years.

But that said it's not as expensive when compared to other high quality pedals.

The pedal is not as flashy as the others but I personally don't care. The only bling on the pedal is the very small gold where on the pedal axle (c'mon, this is a Saint product so it has to have the signature gold somewhere! LOL!).

I'm more about function and durability. Especially at this price. If I was paying more then I might insist that there be more color options.

The pedal is not as light as some of the others but it's also not one of the heaviest. But since it's on my AM/FR and DH bike I really don't care. I just need to know it will perform.

From the moment you pull them from the box you know you have a quality product. The way it feels in your hand reassures you that it's going to last.

the one thing I found somewhat annoying was the pins. Namely that Shimano installed them with the spacers so they're not at their tallest.

Depending on your shoe the short pin height may be fine. For me and my FiveTen shoe it did stick rather well but I found that they sometimes slipped on really rough/technical terrain.

Removing the spacers and putting the pins at their tallest setting fixed that. Now my shoes will not move/slide at all which is good and bad. Mostly good since this is how I like it. Bad in that it's harder (impossible) to make any foot placement adjustments without having to lift my shoe up and placing it back down. But again, I'm already use to having to do that anyway.

So you may need to experiment with pin height.

The pedals (and pins) are strong. Mine have been bashed and dragged over rocks and it hasn't effected performance.

I like that the pins are screwed in from the back rather than from the top. It makes pin replacement much easier.

All in all this is a great pedal and I have it on my AM/FR and my DH bike. Awesome grip and the platform size is perfect (not too large or too small). It's not the thinnest but it's also not the fattest. It will take the abuse. Not the flashiest but I really don't care about that sort of thing. :-)

I am new to MTB and I am not ready for clip ins. I bought these because I trust the Shimano brand and Saint is the best they make for the riders who use flat pedals. They are better than the Wellgos that came stock on my bike. They are larger, they don't bend and I have no doubt that they will take anything that I can put them through. I also like that the pins go through the pedal instead of screwing into them.
There are three things that I don't like about the pedals however, the first issue is that the pins seem a little short even after taking out the spacing washers. The second issue is something that I will probably adjust to, they aren't as large as I expected. They do give the measurement, but it's hard to picture the size of something under your foot, without it under your foot. The third nit I'm going to pick is that instead of making a cool looking pedal, they painted them to look similar to a cool looking pedal. I understand that bling doesn't last long on a pedal and these are cheap(relatively) for hardcore(relatively) flats. I also appreciate that they put the money into the utility side of the equation, but a little bling goes a long way toward preventing buyers remorse.
The Saints are good quality pedals that I would probably put on the "probably buy again" list, but they definitely don't make the "gotta have" list. I also don't see myself ever spending more than this on pedals either.

Comments about Shimano MX80 Saint Pedals:

The only thing I dont like about these pedals is the thickness. I find them a bit too bulky, but thats just peference. They are super grippy and bearings have stayed nice and free the entire year ive had them. I live in new england and ride wet and rocky trails mostly. These pedals have taken a beating and have not degraded at all. Nice pedals for the money, thats for sure!

Comments about Shimano MX80 Saint Pedals:

Had a pair of Wellgo WAM-D10 with platform on one side and SPD on the other. They were terrible! No matter how I was ridding, clippless or not I was constantly playing with the pedals to get them to the side I wanted. Went with the Saint's even though there are many others out there at a cheaper cost. But I wanted something I knew would last a bit more than 1 season. So far I've only taken them on 1 trail since installation but these things have an incredible amount of grip. I've paired them with the Teva Pinner shoes and they stick together so dang good! I will for sure be buying these again!

The overall shape works great having corners and sides that dont snag and dig in hard. Pin placement makes a very grippy whole surface. Materials and bearings look and feel top notch.

I'm 6'6" and 345 lbs. I wear 15 4E shoes. I just got back into mountain biking again after several years. I used to wear clipless. I didn't want to again. I read several reviews on the Saints and I don't regret the purchase one bit. I did take out the washers/spacers like some others suggested and I'm very happy with these pedals.

I had never really ridden any true platform pedals, but coming from SPDs I was surprised at the grip. They grip my Van's really well. They are hard to clean, but they have held up well. So far they have nearly 700 miles of xc/enduro riding on them.

These saint pedals are lighter than my last 2 sets of crank Bros and azonics. You can adjust the level of grip by taking out the spacers as you like. Comfortable and durable.

Like other reviewers state, these pedals offer superior traction. I replaced the stock pedals on my Cannondale Quick CX3 Hybrid bike and could not be happier. Make sure to take the spacers out before installing and you will be pleased with their performance. In the first 20 miles I put on these pedals the only time my feet slipped at all from the pedals was when I went over some really uneven railroad tracks.

I think these are some of the best non clip less pedals you can get. Normally I'm an All-Mountain / Free Ride mountain biker and started having knee problems because of the clip less pedals I've always used. But since I switched to the Saints I haven't noticed any difference except that I can bail quicker when needed. Bottom line is these are pedals are great, even for the price. Cheers
