I got a set of the 1st gen of these pedals. They look great, and were a huge upgrade from the bricks I had on my trail bike. Unfortunately, the axles started to come loose after a few rides. I tried to tighten them back up, but due to the shape of the cage, I couldn't get an Allen key in to really get them REALLY tight. As a result, they loosened up, and this killed the bushings. I got a hold of Spank directly and they offered me a retrofit kit to the new axle design (hex head instead of allen head) along with new bushings. A smart design improvement, but unfortunately I was an eager earlier adopter and paid the price.
It took a while to get my new axles, but I got them. Unfortunately, they sent me 2 axles for the drive side. Once informed, they then sent me a a replacement non-drive side axle. We're now in month #2 of trying to get my pedals sorted...
When I did my re-build, there was still a bit of slop between the bushing, axle and pedal body. I informed Spike, but never heard back. I'm exhausted trying to deal with the issue. Not worth my time. I can deal with bit of wiggle, but won't make the same mistake again. Straitlines use bushings too, but I guess the manufacture to much tighter tolerances.
In all, pretty disappointing for the price. Spend a few extra bucks (if you can) and get some Po1nt Podiums. All bearings, all baller. My buddy has them on 2 bikes and hasn't had any issues at all. They' likely be my next pedal once I kill these Spikes.

Comments about Spank Spike Pedals:
Had to wait a couple of months to get these since MBA gave them the top score in their pedal shootout. I guess a lot of people saw that review. It was worth the wait. They are thin with a nice big platform with plenty of pins. They are easy to service, spin smoothly and fit close to the crank arm. Not sure how they could be improved... maybe half the price.

I kept getting promised dates that pedals did not come in

Comments about Spank Spike Pedals:
Fantastic pedal. Virtually indestructible compared to other light weight platforms. Large platform with the ability to replace pins is awesome.

Comments about Spank Spike Pedals:
These are pretty durable pedals since they're forged as one-piece. The added clearance from being thin also helps. Later generations have redesigned axles but the nut on the end still squeaks on your shoe as it rotates, and the bushings do wear out every few months. The platform is bigger than an MG1. You'll never even notice the bulge for the inboard bearing.
If you're looking for thin pedals, these are definitely worth considering

Comments about Spank Spike Pedals:
I love these pedals, they have a large platform for your shoes to rest on and get a lot of grip from the many spikes, but this all comes on a lightweight pedal that is very thin, helping it get over some of those rocks and roots on the trail.
I definitely recommend these pedals to anyone looking to upgrade but not wanting to go all the way to clips.

Was very impressed on how well my feet stick to the pedals. I have had them for about 9 months and they are just as good as the day i put them on.

I love bombing hills and hitting the biggest jumps, and drops that I can find. I have been using these for about a month now and have had no issues with my feet blowing off the pedals.

Very nice pedals with great grip.
I wanted a change from the SPD's I'd used for years and years... I'm glad I made the switch.
They seem to be well made, too early to tell on that one though.
