I have 300 miles on a 1.95 excavator on the rear of a 2013 enduro. It looks like a 2.1. the climbing and braking traction is excellent. Side knobs are stiff and stable, predictable. Knobs are tall and stout which is rare for a 1.95. Companies usually scale down knobs on a 1.95, but not the excavator. Rubber feels like 70 durometer, so I only run 35psi. to soften the feel. knobs wear very well. I have patched the carcass once. a small branch put a hole that stans wasn't sealing. the price for running 120tpi tires, but they r so light, it's worth it. captain, Larsen, nevegal, purgatory, high roller, all have been used, and the excavator has so far been the best FOR THE REAR. my favorite front is hands down the hans dampf, but way too pricy for me to buy for the rear

I wanted to like these tires, as the price was good and I figured if Eric Carter is putting his name on them, they must be good.

An earlier comment suggested putting them on the back, and if I needed to, that's where I would use them. Put here in NorCal, where it's pretty dry and dusty most of the season, I just washed my front tire too often. Prior to these I ran Maxxis High Rollers, and afterwards I used some old WTB Timberwolves - all 2.35 (except I went to 2.5 on the front after). No washouts at all on the Maxxis or WTB, before or after. But for some reason, the excavators wouldn't stay hooked up on the corners at speed, at least in my experience, on the east bay trails like Cinderella. Maybe it's my style, like I wasn't weighting the front as much as I should, but I don't have any issue with washing out (especially the front) with the Timberwolves or the High Rollers.

    Tractor like grip!

    By Paul XC MTB

    • Reasonable Weight

    Cons

    • High Rolling Resistance

    Best Uses

    • Rear Tire

Comments about Kenda Excavator DTC Tire Folding:

Excellent rear tire for loose conditions. Tread is like a sand tire that digs into loose conditions and really maintains grip. I climbed the same steep, loose trail sections where I spin out on my Nevegals and other tires but these didn't slip at all. Braking was very good as was cornering. Definitely a rear specific tread pattern in my opinion. The rolling resistance is high on hardpack. Amazing value at the current Jenson Price!

Comments about Kenda Excavator DTC Tire Folding:

Got them on rear and front, very good grip, I actually have not tried them on wet muddy terrain but otherwise they perform quite good; not as low rolling resistance as kenda small block or something similar but still rolling easy.
I struggled a little bit with stan's tubeless setup but I think that was mostly because of my rims
Other than that, very good tire set.

Bought these to update the tires on my 2001 Santa Cruz Superlight. They were a great deal on sale and were easy to install. Good traction and ok rolling resistance. Have used them on fire trail and loose gravel...no complaints thus far.

Comments about Kenda Excavator DTC Tire Folding:

This is a very good tire for cyclists that want a fast tire for use on paved or smoother trails, but can still handle slippery stuff like mud and grass. It's a little too thin for sandy or realy rocky trails.

Comments about Kenda Excavator DTC Tire Folding:

I ride at Skeggs here in the Bay Area of California and encounter quite a bit of dry, dusty, loose soil and leaves on my rides. I threw this guy on the back of my Avalanche X and I've been really happy. They replaced some High Rollers I had on before that I wore out and they've held up great.

So far, I've probably put about 80-100 miles on them in the woods. They look nice still and I can climb pretty well.

Comments about Kenda Excavator DTC Tire Folding:

You cannot beat this price for a rear tire (also would make a great front if you ride them narrow). They look much wider than they are. I ride Southern California dusty, sandy over hard pack and they grip and roll well. No issues. Wish they would have mounted tubeless, but they didn't. Kenda has scary warning on their package telling you not to anyway, so know this before getting this incredibly affordable, grippy tire.

Comments about Kenda Excavator DTC Tire Folding:

Great tire, replaced a WTB Velociraptor rear becouse it kept spinning out in the wet and would not shed mud. This tire solved those problems and proved tough. Now if your into speed on hardpack or riding on a bike path this tire will make it seem like your always going uphill, but if you need traction this provides it.
