This has proven over the couple of bikes I have used it on to be tough. I never have to worry about it coming loose while riding. It may not be the lightest in the world, but I prefer the strength since I ride hard.
A quick release skewer is one of those things that you don't ever really think about until you need one. Like most bike components, there is a large range of quality and prices for skewers. My Santa Cruz Chameleon has horizontal drop outs in the rear so I need a solid skewer that can really be torqued down and hold the wheel without issue. Yes, this is an expensive (the most expensive?) option but you get what you pay for and with the Salsa, the value is clear. I shouldn't ever have to replace this one as long as I own the bike. :)
