Schwalbe Big One 29" Tire

Schwalbe Big One 29" Tire

Our friends in The Netherlands have it all figured out when it comes to year round passion for mountain bike racing. Like most of the world, the absence of snow during the summer naturally makes it the prime time for MTB competitions in the Netherlands. Unlike most of the world, instead of packing it in for the winter, Dutch mountain bikers flock to their beaches for the next venue for MTB racing. As beach racing becomes more and more common around the world, Schwalbe designed the Big One tire specifically for kicking out wattage on the sandy shores. Combining massive volume, small tread, minimum weight and the latest Tubeless Easy technology, the Big One offers low rolling resistance with a wide footprint that maintains speed and stability in the sand. Perhaps you live nowhere near a beach. These tires are also great in dry, sandy regions.

Features:

  • Tubeless technology offers clear benefits in terms of speed, comfort, grip and puncture protection for all sporty and ambitious cyclists.
  • SnakeSkin compound assures cut-resistance on sidewalls and extremely easy tubeless conversion
  • LiteSkin compound lightest compound option by Schwalbe
  • Claimed to have the lowest rolling resistance ever by Schwalbe

Best yet.
This is the fastest tire yet. As good as Compass 700x38 with much larger air volume and can be run at lower pressure for even more comfort. Set up the extra light tubeless, initial sidewall leakage sealed fast and is holding good. Made my Jones steel diamond frame, Ti truss fork as fast as high end road bike and way more comfortable. You need lots of clearance, so measure well. Great tire, much faster and lighter than Super-moto.

PROS: Attractive Design, Lightweight, Durable

CONS: Difficult To Install

BEST USES: Casual Riding, Road Biking, Upgrade

More info after 500 mi.
After 500 mi. I recommend skinwall if going tubeless. Extralights ok with tube but side wall leakage a hassle. Skinwalls set fast and easy and no leaks in first 200 mi. The skinwall is a great touring tire on paved roads, fast real comfort, and huge stability.

Big, fat and fast
I put these on the only known 2017 Giant ToughRoad SLR 0 in the USA. For some strange logic they are not sold here. I wanted a combo Gravel Grinder / trail / road / minor bumps bike. These tires are great. Enough cushion to smooth out most trails and gravel roads and they are very fast and climb great. They're no slouches on pavement either and open up bike rides on a multitude of surfaces. Look hot as well.

Perfect for my fully rigid bike
Exactly what I was looking for, fast rolling, high volume, low resistance tires for my rigid bike. They are fast, silent and very good looking!

I went for the SnakeSkin version, tubeless setup on a pair of DT Swiss XR1501 wheels, added a Niner rigid fork to the mix for the perfect commute bike.

Fastest tire I have ever used
Super light and super fast but also super fragile. Use as a rear tire with something reasonable up front like a rocket Ron. Makes a great race day rear as long as the race is not long with lots of sharp rocks you will be happy

Just as advertised
I was looking for another pair of tires to use on my stock (heavy) wheels. I swap tires to use on the street. If you have another set of wheels like me and can afford a pair of tires, then these are the tires you are looking for.

Great fast rolling tire
I spend a good bit of time on hard surfaces with my single speed MTB. I bought these tires to replace my well worn Big Apples. I run a full rigid, so tire volume is essential. I hit the 1996 Olympic MTB track this week, and I can say that these tires provided good traction in the dry conditions. The track has many rooty and rocky sections. I went with the SnakeSkin option, and the tires held up to multiple sidewall scrubs against the rocks. They roll extremely fast.

I am running them tubeless, 29" on Stan's Arch.

Is this particular tire the Snakeskin, or the Liteskin version of the Big One 29er?

BEST ANSWER: If you are asking about my review under the name 2g5mk, then the answer is: it is the light skin version. If you are asking about the picture the answer is that you can not tell because the label is not shown. A snake skin version will say either snakeskin or tubeless easy.
