i finally splurged and bought this tire brand new. i have never paid this much for a tire. after todays ride i am so glad i did. i took it to the super steep DH single tracks of the verdugo's where its loose over hard pack and traction is hard to find. it stuck way better than the spechy purgatory it replaced, and other tires i have ridden on: captains, ardents, ignitors, mountain kings. i only put it on the front and was running an ardent in the rear but it blows the ardent away as far as traction so i am going to buy another one and put it on the rear as well. this tire made my riding so much more fun and safe today.

The HD's are a big soft tire that measures up to the stated size. Its large nobs are very soft and braking performance is incredible. Works real well on So Cal trails. After 100 miles I noticed the back was taking a real beating and the soft knobs were starting to show some damage. The tire is just to expensive to destroy so I replaced the rear with an old Bontrager. I lost a little grip in back but gained some speed back. The HD's are a slow tires if you run them front and back. Overall I love the grip with the only shortcoming being rocks between the size of an almond and a walnut on fire roads. The tire is pretty loose when you hit that stuff, don't see much of it though.

Live in high desert and ride in rocks and sand washes and this tire handles it all.On one trail I have torn two WTB Bronson tires but this tire handles fine

Using Hans Dampf Snake Skin 29x2.35 as a front tire. There is nothing this tire can't do. I feel 99% safer,faster in corners and all together better with this tire compared to: Nevegal, Conti Trail King, Conti Mountain King, WTB Nano Raptor, Maxxis Ardent. The price is high but if you are buying tires once or twice a year($30ish more than any decent tire)it is worth paying $30 or $60 extra a year for this quality of ride. (I only have time to ride about twice a week.)
With Hans Dampf on the front and Nobby Nick on the back my riding just climed to a whole other level - it is trully worth the price.
