Without a doubt the best hundred bucks I've spent in a while. After riding a heavy and cheap full suspension bike for years to tow my kids behind I treated myself to a lightweight mountain bike. Crowding 50 it made me feel 10 years younger (except for my seat bone). Most of my riding is a combination of pavement and hardpack (No X games here) and 10 to 30 miles. What's amazing is towards the end of my rides how much I was focusing on the cracks and washboards in the trail. After reading reviews on alot of different posts I chose the Thud Buster. I could not be more pleased with how this post smoothes out the bumps. I'm not big on standing up in my pedals to avoid pain and this was the ticket. One extra plus I noticed was that once you have your seat set up you don't seem to loose any peddling energy into your suspension ( I noticed this alot with my soft tail). This post looks unusual in the photo but looks cool on my bike. Happy trails :)

Lack of elastomers is a serious problem as this is a gift for my Mrs. She'll need the missing grey (light) elastomers. If I ever use it I'll need the missing black (heavy) elastomers. It's her B'day on Mon... The box had been opened. Lack of elastomers makes me wonder if I got a returned item. Either way, it's no good without the elastomers. Not great for a gift... Will have to return if elastomers are not provided.Incomplete product gets poor rating for now. Esp at this price. Will update once thoroughly field tested and problem with missing elastomers resolved. Item had better be v good to justify the weight/price/elastomers (lack of). I have a feeling that I might end up regretting this particular purchase.

    This thing is awesome

I use this on my "off-road" bike. I ride C&O canal and mountain trails with easy now.
I love this thing- you can adjust when the "give" starts and how it responds.
I thought to back-n-forth motion would be a problem, but it is actually fun.
I adjusted the front fork to be in tune with it and the whole bike sort of bounces along- its plain fun to use.
I would never go back to total hardtail and it's cheaper than a FS bike.
To me it's the best option for a hardtail- I still have HT traction, but I don't pay in the end;-)

    By David

Felt a huge difference immediately. Takes much of the pounding out of the trail when going over roots and rocks. Noticed that the thudbuster alows me to keep my feet from bouncing off the pedals when riding over rough terrain (I use platform pedals). Have only busted 1 elastomer so far in 6 mos of riding and that was from a particularly hard fall. Would definitely recommend the thudbuster for anyone with lower back issues or looking to upgrade their hardtail.

    By Eric

got into mountain biking, enjoyed it and made sone upgrades. my advice is to save the $$$ and iether put it towards a full suspension bike or if ur not ready buy a nice carbon post (that you can always swap on to a new bike) THE SEAT"S RE-BOUND IS NOT DAMPENED SO IN ESSENCE YOUR SITTING ON A SPRING! HANG ON BUDDY!

    By Kevin

    from Wash, Dc

Yeah, it is heavy but it saves me from lower back pain and helps with climbing. I'm not going to attempt racing with it anymore. You never know when an elastomer will pop (had to DNF one race and turned in a terrible lap time during a 12 hr race). One last thing, don't expect to turn your hardtail into a full suspension ride. You still need to get out of the saddle over rough sections.

    By Matt

this product takes a good portion of the jolts and vibrations away, making your bike riding experience a lot more enjoyable. I would experiment a little with the settings. I am 142 lbs and found that one grey and blue worked best for my riding style. adjusting the preload noticeably changed the ride characteristics also.
