Great economical alternative to much more expensive dropper seat posts. Was a little apprehensive about not buying the handlebar mounted option but it is so easy to use and adjusts quickly on the fly. Very happy with the savings. I ride the heck out of it and it works every time. No slop or play or fluid leaking (yet). Very happy. Can't believe I almost spent $350+ on the Reverb.

If you like boxing up products and shipping them back to the manufacturer for repair, then this post is for you! Treated it as gently as one possibly could (while still using it), and it failed after just a few rides (lost pressure and leaked oil). Sent it back for repair (which they completed promptly), and mid-way through the first ride, it started losing oil and pressure again.

Have had the Joplin 4 installed on my Salsa Big Mama 4" 29er for a few weeks. Like the simplicity, lightweight, ease of use. The lever works fine on this bike, I generally make seat height changes before expected tech sections, then readjust when easy riding returns. I have the Reverb on my Nomad, with remote, and like that set up for that bike and riding, but the Joplin 4 is great on the xc bike with more limited (usually) tech trails. One episode of post sag, after pulling bike off wall hook, but a few cycles thru the travel retored function.

I like this post alot, I went with the lever model because I didnt want the extra cable running up to my bars to keep it clean looking. But sometimes taking your hand off the bars to drop it sucks but its not a real problem. Buy one, you wont regret it.

Excellent product, flawless design and construction. Adds confidence and safety for technical descents. Found the under seat lever difficult to use on the fly. Added the remote operation and now adjust seat height much more often than expected. Wish I had purchased one sooner!
Trail riding in Ontario. If the Joplin were the only height adjustable seat I would put up with the headaches because seat-height adjust provides significant benefit.
However, given the options available I would recommend looking elsewhere. Or even the new CrankBros adjustable post due out soon.
I have owned the joplin for 4 seasons and I think I have sent it back for warrantee 3 times. The bushings seem to wear out which causes the seals to fail and all of the oil to spill out over time. I need to send it back again because little screws inside loosened and gouged up the sliding surface on the inside of the tube. Now it runs rough and sticks.
This was a revolutionary product when it was introduced, so it is no surprise that there were glitches. I am just disappointed at how long it took for CB to come up with a better product. Let's hope the new post works better.
At this point I would recommend the Kind Shock seat post or the RS Reverb.
delicate
need much maintenance to keep it functional.

I have used the original maveric speedball seatpost with 3" of travel for 5 years, with very few problems, until the seat clamp broke. I am kinda hard on seatposts (heavy rider 250#) so this seems to be a fair breakage, pluss you can buy spare parts. I got some for $25.
At This time i saw a great deal on the 4" version now made by Crank Brothers. They have addressed the side to side play on the post and added the extra inch of travel that was missed on the older post. I am hoping for many years out of this post.
As a final note, unless you are racing the handlebar control is very much overrated

I use the non-remote version on my Yeti BigTop and the remote version on my Santa Cruz Tallboy.
This is the best invention since disc brakes and derailleurs. My riding style is mostly all mountain with a healthy dose of freeride sessions along the way. The quick bulletproof up and down saddle movement puts this post ahead of the rest.
Yes it puls up if you lift the bike by the saddle, but frankly that becomes trivial compared to the usefulness of being able to ride with having to stop for critical height adjustments.

It is a great product, however needs to be resealed after about a years use. Luckily thats not expensive if you do it yourself
All products are for this if you like sending in a box so that is not so great, because here in Brazil is taking all the revenue, that these gifts would arrive.
