Setup took a bit of finagling for the thumb lever. The unit has 2 different SKUs - one for left handed and one for right handed mounting - but I missed that and got lucky.

The 3M cable guides are nifty for a quick install but the adhesive isn't holding up to well in the Texas heat. A little persuasion is usually necessary to re-adhere from time to time.

A dab of Loctite on the adjustment fasteners for the seat AFTER you've set up the seat to your liking isn't a bad idea. Got caught in the middle of a big ride with the fasteners backing out and my tool sitting on the workbench. It was a long, slow ride back.

Works great. Like this design feature that requires a bit of rider pressure on the seat to activate the release - especially on the up extension - no surprises in the nether region is a welcoming comfort.

Drops that I used to walk I now take w/o hesitation. Being able to throw your center of gravity over the back wheel and drop the heals makes taking those obstacles a no brainer.

Things that were great are that it is very easy to install. It seems like a simple design that should work reliably.

The bad is that the lever is very hard to activate, requires a lot of pressure. The more bad is that my particular model would not move up and down once I activated the lever. After about twenty minutes of trying I got it to drop once and it seemed to drop more than 4" as it was really hard to sit on it to get it to activate up. It took me quite a while tonget it to move back up and after messing around with it for another 30 minutes I gave up.

Thereviews of this product are stellar so I think I got a stinker. But I would recommend the turbo over the classic because the Turbo does not require sitting on it to get it to move tonthe up position.

Comments about GravityDropper Gravity Dropper Classic Seatpost:

This is a great dropper post! Bought one last year for my all mountain bike and loved it so much that I bought a second for my rigid 29er. I hear horror stories about the reliability of other droppers. My riding buddy has blown up his Reverb twice in a year and a half. My Gravity Droppers just keep on going!

You can easily service or rebuild these since all parts are available from Gravity Dropper. GD will also service it for about $15. I've already changed the inner post to give various position instead of just up/down. Took about 10 minutes each. The people at Gravity Dropper are also very quick to respond to any questions that I email to them. Excellent customer service.

Any person that complains that they have issues with this post getting stuck in any position does not have the collar at the top of the lower post properly adjusted. All of this info is easily found on their website! I would absolutely buy this again.

I liked the first one so much I bought another one. I initially gave 4 stars, but I would give this 4.5 stars now (b/c it's not "perfect")

To JesonUSA, you should add a function in review that allows for editing. On with review.

This model has the choice of dropping 4" only. I bought the insert that allows to multi position from Gravity Dropper directly. Doing this is cheaper that buying from any other place. If you need a post of different length, then you'll have to dish out more $$.

I took away the boot b/c it took away from the overall look of the bike. Not that any adjustable seat post is pretty. By removing the boot, the bike is less ugly and has no issues with functioning of the adjustable seat post.

Adjustable seat post is a game changer. I'm more confident going down hill. It allows me to shift my body with ease.

Sure, this doesn't have the infinite seating height. I like the the simple and reliable mechanism of Gravity Dropper. It has the added advantage of being cheaper than most.

stock diameter compatible with ellsworth. simple to use, strong. very simple design versus hydraulic systems. old model that has proved its strenght over time. bugs worked out by now. very very happy with it. It is actually more of a game changer than going hard tail to full suspension, for me. I can now go off big drops that I never would even consider. great price

Dropper is as advertised. It simply works and feels solid. I only used it in handful of ride, so take it for what it's worth. I ride mostly XC-type riding and don't abuse my bike like some.

On a hind sight, I would order the version that allows for 1-inch incremental drop. Dropping 3 inches is okay for extended downhill portions or really technical stuff, but my riding would benefit with just 1 or 2 inch drop most of the time.

I have this post on my Trans am and it can't be beat by any of the other suspention post companyies out there. I have another brand on my Jamis and it has nothing but problems that are a pain to deal with, the gravity dropper is simple and easy to work on if it needs it.

Rock solid performance, I have been running this post for a few years and all I have done to it is apply grease a couple of times, unlike all of my buddies running Joplins who have to have them serviced and even rebuilt after a few months of use. It is a 27.2 mm which makes it good for swaping between bikes, all you need are the right shims.

This is the only dropper seatpost worth considering (well the other Gravity Droppers are good too). All others have extreme reliability issues and aren't worth the time. I've had this post for 2 years of year round use, generally riding 4-5 times a week during the spring, summer, fall, and once a week in winter. I've covered it in mud and it's been fine. Nearly no maintenance required, and it's easy. It only has 3 positions, but that's all you need. Plus, unlike some posts, it won't come up on it's own once it's down.
