These little spacers are little slices of heaven. I have shimano 10 speed gearing on my road bike and if i put the cassette on the particular hub i have without any spacers, there is the smallest of gaps that doesn't allow the lockring to "lock" and this little 1mm spacer was just the right thickness to take care of it. It's a good thing that I bought 3 of them because I have 3 sets of wheels, one for training, one for racing, and one rear wheel for the indoor trainer. I can use these spacers on all 3 wheels without having to adjust the shifting ever so slightly for each wheel.

Used this to run a 8 of 9 on a 7 speed freehub. Put it on first then the cassette + 2 cogs (smallest cog would't fit). Without it I couldn't get the lockring to fit snug against the cassette. Not sure if that's what it is used for, I ordered some different spacers to get it to work but this was the part that did the trick.
