Comments about Shimano Deore M590 9Speed Crankset W/BB:

I have been a fan of Deore since the days when Deore was a touring category. I think Deore is the best value of all Shimano group sets. In my XC days, I used XT exclusively, however for commuting/fitness/recreational bikes, Deore is my staple. The M590 crankset is well constructed, fit and finish is top notch and of course performs very well. I upgraded a fitness bike I recently purchased to a Deore drive train. Compared to a square taper Shimano crankset, the external bearing Hollow Tech II system is noticeably stiffer and I especially appreciate improved performance when ascending. For a fitness/commuter bike, this crank set is just perfect - together with Deore FD and shifters, I really can't tell the difference going back and forth from Deore to Deore XT. I highly recommend the M590 for any 3x9 setup.

Comments about Shimano Deore M590 9Speed Crankset W/BB:

I put this on a Surly LHT. And it is much better than the one that was on it. Faster, smoother. I did have to adjust the front derailer just a bit. But shifting is good. Instructions said I would need a spacer, but I did not. Overall, I really like it.

Comments about Shimano Deore M590 9Speed Crankset W/BB:

I have the full Deore level groupset on my Bullitt cargo bike, and it works great. The shifting isn't quite as snappy as my road or mtb, but it cost much, much less, and works just fine for cruising the streets. I just ease off a bit extra compared to my other bikes when shifting, otherwise I hammer just as hard as any other time. Not that I recommend it, but for my cargo bike, I basically neglect the drive train and it just keeps on ticking.

Comments about Shimano Deore M590 9Speed Crankset W/BB:

I would consider this the AK47 of cranks; its not be the most advanced of its kind, its not a specialist in any particular genre of riding, and its not the lightest, but it will get you where you want to go without fail. this crank will handle a substantial amount of abuse in the form of bumps, bangs, scrapes, excessive weight load, botched shifts, and cleaning/lube neglect; so for those of us out there who aren't exactly kind to our bikes, its an ideal crank. The 26-36-48 tooth setup in conjunction w/ a 9 spd cassette covers a wide range of gear ratios that leaves very little to be desired (unless you're trying to blast down the road at 40+ mph). The only thing left is the price, and for what this crank offers, I consider the 100 or so bucks i spent to be well worth it.

The 48T crankset gives enough gearing to actually get some speed up. Very durable cranks.

Comments about Shimano Deore M590 9Speed Crankset W/BB:

This replaced a steel-ring square taper set up on a commuter flat-bar road bike, so this was big step up. Paired with LX shimano shifters, this was smoother than the original parts. Dropped some weight and it looks sharp too.

Great question! This crankset comes with a BSA-threaded Bottom bracket (SM-BB51) which is a Shimano Hollowtech II spindle interface for frames with 68 and 73mm shells (external). Its a lot to take in, but I hope this helps!
