I think this and the XTR M950 BB are the best ever. The catch is they must be perfectly adjusted - a lost art in today's bolt-on cartridge world, but well worth it. And yes, a bad adjustment will cause excessive bearing wear. I've logged thousands of mile without pitting or the need of frequent overhauls.
BB is a pretty nondescript part, until there's a problem. I have bikes 20-30 years old, with virtually the original bottom brackets, and no noticable problems. Dura Ace BB gets replaced 2-4 times/ year, and I'm fairly easy on parts.
