I used one of these cranksets on a tour last year, rode over 6000 km on it with a fully loaded bike weighing in at around 90lb most of the time, rode lots of rough offroad stuff and some singletrack as well. this thing held up perfectly, rings are still straight and good and the teeth look like they could hold up to another 6000 km without a problem!
I couldn't think of a reason to spend any more than this on a crank that may or may not preform as well as this one, I rode it from Mexico to Colombia would trust it to go all the way around the world if I had time to! wouldn't think twice about putting one on any of my regular mtn bikes either.

Ripped off - The pressed - in spider/crankarm interface is already failing after 3 months, causing an increasingly loud click w/every pedal stroke. (The crankarm is not supposed to move independently from the spider) Although it would probably last a couple of years, I can't stand the noise. I hate this crankset due to the noise and will replace it as soon as possible.I will NEVER buy shimano again.

It has a great design and is one of the best options if you need something cheap and good.
It is a little bit heavy but for this price that is fine.

Was looking to try 170mm to get a little more ground clearance and better match my 5'8" size.
I love them.

I use this crankset on my Ragley TD-1 titanium single speed. I customized my crankset by first machining off the inner chainring mounts. I then cut 5mm off the shaft while machining the splines to run this without spacers on my 68mm bottom bracket shell. This lowers the weight a little and also lowers the q-factor. These modifications bring the weight real close to my old the E Thirteen crankset while being stiffer, having cleaner looks and offering better bearing durability. Most won't go through the trouble to customize their gear like this but the end results are worth the trouble. Stock this crankset offers better performance at half the price of most and with the mod's it's more trick than anything you could buy off the shelf.

I have had these cranks going on 2 years and have been mounted on 2 bikes. These cranks have been flawless. The best crankset I have had so far. Not as blingy as XT or XTR, but doesn't cost as much either. Performs just as good as those do. No flex whatsoever. All the power is transferred to the wheels.
I am running them in 2 ring configuration and will soon be going to a single ring. Without the two other rings, this crankset will be fairly light. Hurry and get these while you still can.

I have purchased other brands and installed them. I build a bike about every other year: Touring, mountain, city, cross, or whatever strikes my fancy at the time. However, as a rule, I find Shimano to be the easiest to install. And to me, it feels the strongest and smoothest for my purposes. No free-style, downhill, racing, or insane jumps.

This crank is great for me. Pretty light for the price and it is a great upgrade from alivio or deore cranck sets
I have been using this crank on my Niner jet 9 for almost a year and have had no issues. It is performing great. It has seen a lot of abuse and it is handling it very well.

Seems great so far. Not sure how long bb will last but so far after a few rides seems ok.
Bought this for a touring bike build, and it's superb paired up with other LX and XT drivetrain components. At this price for the crankset and BB, you can't go wrong.

I have two of these - one on my Surly LHT and one as a replacement for the original Bontrager square taper crank on my Gary Fisher. Huge improvement over the old Bonty. Stiffer, eliminates chain rub when cranking hard, looks much better! Mounted very easily - I didn't even have to adjust the derailleur. Nothing else is close to this quality and performance for the price.
