The M087G contains many of Shimanos high-end features found in their top competition shoes, but at a more attractive price range.   Features such as a micro-adjust buckle and dual straps that securely hold the foot and allow for subtle adjustments are just one of the examples of "borrowed technology" from the more expensive elite shoes.  The M087G also features breathable mesh and an aggressive sole, and is slightly lighter than its predecessor the M086.

Pros

Best Uses

  • Straightaways
  • Uneven Surfaces

Comments about Shimano M087 MTB Shoe:

Light, cool, good fit, strong platform feel. Not flexy.

These shoes made my feet feel connected with the bike. I have 510s, which aren't heavy, but these were noticeably lighter. Definately matters in the cadence.

I'm not a huge fan of the style, or any XC styled shoe. Still, they don't look bad. Also, these shoes aren't made for walking. HAB isn't impossible, but usually if you have to walk it's in steep, loose, techy sections. It isn't fun, the 510s are much better for that.

best use: XC/Trail. Great shoes

Comments about Shimano M087 MTB Shoe:

These are great shoes! I bought them on close out and have been very pleased with them. The sole grips well when walking, they fit well, and they're actually comfortable.

My only complaint is that sometimes the buckle will loosen up while riding, but heck, even Sidis do that, and it's not a big deal to reach down and click it tighter.

I've used them hard for a year now (they're my only cycling shoe, and I use them for road and mountain biking) and they've held up quite well. I'm sure I'll get at least another season out of them, possibly more.

Clippy!

Comments about Shimano M087 MTB Shoe:

This is the first clipless setup I've used. I'm using them with the plastic body shimano DX pedals for agressive XC/trail/AM type riding.

The ratchet strap was a "must" according to my more seasoned XC rider buddies, and I think I now see why. It's pretty important to have a positive connection with the shoe to let you unclip quickly and effectively. These shoes fit the bill.

you won't want to hike for miles in them, but if you need to, you're riding in the wrong place...

Update to my previous review

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Great adjustability

Cons

    Best Uses

    • MTB

Comments about Shimano M087 MTB Shoe:

Having had a chance to wear these over the season, they have proven to be a comfortable shoe. The ratchet allows to fine tune the fit, and I have not experienced any slippage. I have worn these trail rides up to 3 hours without noticing any hot spots or discomfort. They clean up easily as well.
My only (minor issue) would be the sizing seems to run a bit on the small side, but the exchange was made easily.

    Great shoe

    Cons

      Best Uses

      • Casual trail
      • City Riding
      • MTB

Comments about Shimano M087 MTB Shoe:

The ratchet straps really allow you to take advantage of the shoes rigidity. There is very little play between my foot and the shoe when I have it tightened down and it's reasonably comfortable when it is. (I have an average width foot.) Walking on sidewalks or other city surfaces is not as arduous as some other MTB shoes since these have a more rubber sole on the forefoot with the cleat completely recessed. These are great shoes for the price.

Comments about Shimano M087 MTB Shoe:

Bought these as a replacement for 6 year old mtb shoes that finally died (and cost twice as much).
So far, fit is great, my daughter gave me style points, and the price was right.
Haven't ridden them long enough to see if they warrant a 5 rating.

Comments about Shimano M087 MTB Shoe:

I can't yet rate this shoe on its durability as I have only 100 miles or so of riding with them, but the comfort is excellent. The ratcheting buckle allows for a snug fit that stays put throughout the ride. Quality appears to be good. Time will tell. A big plus is that this shoe runs true to size, eliminating returns/exchanges !

Use 1x/wk on average for MTB. Good shoe for the money, happy with the fit and ease of on/off. Sole is a bit uncomfortable, but not that bad.

MBT , all around biking , there is wide option so if your feet are a bit wide dont go for normal but go for wide ones.
