Shimano Ultegra CS-6800 11-SPD Cassette

Shimano Ultegra 6800 11-Speed Cassette

In the wake of the success of the 11 Speed Dura Ace 9000 group, Shimano has recently revealed that the 11 Speed sensation was moving down the line to the more affordable Ultegra 6800 group. With the Ultegra 6800 11-Speed Cassette offering close and wide-range gearing options from 11-23 to 11-32 the rider tuned gearing choices just got broader. The Ultegra 6800 Cassette utilizes nickel-plated steel cogs for corrosion resistance. Did we mention the Ultegra 6800 Cassette is completely compatible with Dura Ace 9000 group?

Impressive Delivery
My bike came with the Ultegra compact crank, 11-28 cassette and long derailer.I switched to the 11-32. The 32 cog gives me that little bit extra when riding the steeper grades without impacting your high gears. If you have the correct tools, the cassette is easy to install. Going from the 11-28 to the 11-32 required a longer chain (2 links) and the long DR. After installation, my bike shifts smooth with minimal adjustments to the DR.
Jenson customer service and delivery was fantastic.

came on time, YAY!
So happy it arrived on time before I left before the Death Ride, unfortunately due to my stupidity I didnt realize it wouldnt fit my bike. Good thing my bike shop exchanged it for the proper size, a 28.

Great quality for the price
Now both the largest 3 cogs as well as the next 2 cogs are on common carriers just like the Dura Ace cassette. This makes for easier installation and will not dig into the rotor like individual cogs do.

The best cassette on the market
I'm really happy with this cassette. It combines the last few largest cogs onto carriers with really big oversized splines, so you don't tear up expensive freehub bodies. The finish quality is excellent, and the wear life should be very long. Ultegra is the cat's pajamas in 11 speed. Shifting quality is excellent.

Top Notch Cassette at a Great Price
Bought this cassette for my backup wheels. You can't go wrong with Ultegra as far as price and durability is concerned. Jenson had the best price PLUS I got it the next day with no extra charge. That's a win right there.

Not just for grannies
Helpful for hill climbing.

Don't let someone laugh at it as a granny gear. It falls into the category of using the right tool for the right job.

If you are doing serious hill climbing or hauling gear (touring) it will help

Climbing made easier
Paired this with a Ultegra 50/34 crankset, having 11/32 in the back, gives me almost a one to one, which keeps me in the saddle longer on long climbs and helps keep the cadence higher. I don't believe the 11/36 was available when ordering or I may have gone for that one, but moving up from 11/28 to 11/34 made a difference

Can I install the 11x32 cassette in the place of the 12x28 one without changes to the derailleur or chain length?
Heydon on Sep 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes and No! Having built 9-speed, 10-speed, and 11-speed drive trains, I can tell you the correct way would be to use a medium cage derailleur (the GS suffix) with a slightly longer chain. You are talking about re-engineering a complex mechanical system that was designed by real engineers. Once you start to redesign things, you take responsibility for the costs and any failures.
That said, a 4 tooth difference might physically bolt together and work but would tend to put a strain on the derailleur. I once added 4 teeth total to a 9-speed system with a short derailleur and it worked ok with the same chain and derailleur. Specs for total derailleur take up are published on Shimano website, just google the part numbers and a pdf should come up. Shimano expresses this as a number for a total tooth count capacity. Jenson's may also be able to give you this info.
Another thought... Is your existing 12X28 cassette an 11-speed or 10-speed. If it's 11-speed Shimano/Sram then the CS-6800 should fit the freehub. You just need to match 11-speed cassette with an 11-speed Shimano/Sram compatible freehub. 11-speed and 10-speed drivetrains have different cog spacing and each require different rear shifters and derailleurs. They use different measurements for cable pull and derailleur movement and cannot be mixed. To complicate matters, some newer freehubs might come with 10-speed cassettes that use an extra spacer that can be removed to fit a wider 11-speed cassette. However older 10-speed freehubs may not be compatible because they don't' have enough depth on the splines to fit all the cogs and tighten the lock screw.
Hi I have a 2015 11 speed Trek road bike with a stock 11-28 cassette and the stock Short Cage Ultegra Derailleur.

I wanna use an 11-32 cassette. Do I need to change my cassette to the GS or use an extender?
Mike on Oct 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Ultegra should take the 11-32 fine and is officially supported. You may need an extended derailleur but likely not. It is Dura-Ace 9000 that does not officially support 11-32. Thanks
I have a giant defy with P-SL l1 hub and rim 10 speed. Will this cassette fit?
Arthur on May 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Sadly I do not believe that it will work as you usually want an 11 speed compatible hub with an 11 speed cassette.
Can I use this on my MTB that currently has an 11 speed XT cogset...will it be a direct swap?
