Shimano XT M8000 Disc Brake

Shimano XT BR-M8000 Hydraulic Disc Brake

Riding comfortably at white-knuckle speeds requires an unconscious, intuitive confidence in your machine. It requires knowing that whatever conditions you come across, your brakes will be ready and able to deliver reliable control in any situation. Say hello to the XT M8000 Brakes, and say goodbye to compromise. The integration of Servo-Wave brake-boosting technology into XT brakes delivers gobs of lightweight stopping power.

Where the M8000 steps up from the already industry-standard BR-M785B is through its upgraded, integrated master cylinder which sports a sleeker look, saves weight and frees up valuable handlebar real estate. It also gains a beautiful black finish that will upgrade the look of any bike.

With ceramic pistons to increase power, reduce vibrations and shed performance-sapping heat, when coupled with innovative IceTech aluminum-core rotors (sold separately) to even further keep heat buildup at bay, the XT BR-M8000 brakes maintain cool, quiet performance under fire.

Shimano XT BR-M8000 Hydraulic Disc Brake Features:

  • Power level is specifically tuned for trail riding
  • Servo Wave modulated levers offer high power and short stroke by varying pad speed throughout the lever stroke
  • Integrated master cylinder is lighter, cleaner and more durable
  • Refined Servo Wave for improved feel and feedback, improved adjustability
  • Narrow clamp band offers increased positional adjustment
  • Free stroke and tool-free reach adjust
  • Ceramic pistons for maximum heat insulation

Fantastic Brakes !! Replaced my Avid Elixir 9s that dragged
I like the new all black look but the modulation is great and lever adjustment is perfect. The Elixirs dragged constantly for 3 yrs with the noise being totally embarrassing and very loud. Very nice one finger easy braking .... this is all you need, ever........ I pulled the trigger because I could not take it anymore!

Excellent Control in Technical Downhill Situations
I ride a lot of technical downhill, not necessarily high speed, but hiking trail type steps, switchbacks etc. I've tried several brands of brakes. All others do not have the level of control the Shimano XT provides. I am able to hold the front break through a drop off allowing enough roll to keep out of an endo situation. Many other breaks seems to be geared only for much higher speed and at low speeds are either locked or off.

Excellent braking system for the price
Couldn't be happier with my purchase. For the price vs dependability, I will definitely fork over the $$$ for these brakes again for my next bike.

Nothing better
My fat bike came with low-end brakes, but I have been using XT brakes on my other 2 bikes. I didn't realize how big the difference is until I took a few rides. Ditched the low-end brakes and went with XT's, huge difference. Plus, the other brakes used brake fluid (nasty, messy stuff), Shimano uses mineral oil. It can still get messy, but it's not corrosive.

Are hoses included?
BeeHay on Jul 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I recently chated with some one from the staff, and yes they come as a full set... Hoses included and pre bleeded!!
Do instructions come with this product?
Angela Havrilla on Dec 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: These include basic information on the brakes, but to save paper, Shimano has the complete installation instructions listed on their SI site. It can be found if you search for "Shimano Technical Documents" on the web.
Hello, I would like to know if adapters are needed to run these brakes on my 2015 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Carbon Comp. My bike has Shimano Deore brakes and the front and rear shifters are mounted to the brakes. A quick Google search suggests the brakes are Shimano Deore BR-M506.

Please let me know.

MMartin on May 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: They may but check with the maker of your bike to make shore>
Do they ship with pads included?
Mark on Apr 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: These brakes come with Shimano J04C Ice-Tec metallic pads pre-installed.
does it come with front and rear?
A shopper on Dec 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, you have to but it separately, front and rear!
I would like to know if the brakes come with or without oil ???
Ricardo P on Mar 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: These are pre-bled, so they already contain oil, and do not include extra Mineral Oil.
Do you know if this shifter also works with 1x10 Drivetrain?
I'm also installing Shimano Deore XT M8000 Brakes, is it compatible with them?

Shimano XT M780 10 Speed Shifter
Shimano XT M780 10 Speed Shifter
BEST ANSWER: I prefer to use same model components together, that being said I do believe 10 speed shifters are interchangable among the different model shimano components from XTR to Alivio.
As far as the brakes are concerned they're compatible with anything unless you want I SPEC mounting which allows for the pairing of the brake lever to shifters?
Does the rear set come come with a bleed block?
Jeff on Nov 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I know the front and rear comes with a block each , so I would imagine the individual has one included as well. I found them to be a bit thin and prefer the Hayes blocks because they're thicker .
Sent from my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S® 6.
Is the front a left lever and the rear a right lever?
Cris eggers on May 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Correct - Rear right, front left.
1) Does it come with a set pf pads? Which ones?
2) Is the banjo bolt included?
Davinci on Sep 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: They come with the metallic pads j04C, I ordered and installed the resin pads J02A instead. They made noise for about 5 mins, wiped of break in dust and have been silent ever since. I had a local shop install and i am assuming all parts were include as they did not charge me for any additional components. only thing that you may need is the bleed kit. The mechanic did a good job an no bleeding needed as hose length worked well.
Do these come with a spare olive and needle if hose shortening is required? If not is Shimano BH-90 Olive and Insert the correct one.
Greg on Sep 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It does come with the spare olive and insert. I would recommend getting the
Shimano brake bleeding kit for bleeding the brakes.
Do these come with the special brake pad cooling fins?
Karl Lindberg on Mar 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hello Karl Lindberg,
Yes, the complete brake kit does come with the brake pads with cooling fins.
They are very reliable brakes.
I hope this helps.

i have a 2016 Specialized stumpjumper 29 . 203 front 180 rear rotor. Will the XT caibers bolt up using my Shimano mounts from the stock brakes ?
Derrick P on Jan 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Adapters should always be based off of your frame/fork and not on the size of the rotor. Some frames/forks are designed for 160's or 180's. and so the adapter is thus relative. To say you need a 203mm adapter is silly. I can use a "180mm" adapter to fit a 300mm adapter if I have a fork that is meant to fit a 280mm rotor, it is all relative.
Get an adapter that is the correct number of mm's larger than what your fork/frame is meant for. Then it will fit. Check the spec's on your frame and see what it is designed for, and then you might need a +20 or a +40mm adapter.
Does ir comes in pair?
Alejandro on Oct 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, they come just as a set (one lever, one caliper) you will need to purchase front and rear sets.
Are these pre bled? and this is left front right rear package set?
Nick on Jun 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, not a left and right package set. You have to choose front or rear upon selection. You can buy both at separate cost.
I bought these brakes (shimano XT M8000). The brakes are great, but I am running SRAM XX1 Grip Shift and the short levers are too far away to be able to keep my hands on the outside portion of the grips. Is it possible to replace the short, standard grip levers with something longer?
David E on Jul 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If you are talking about the brake levers, you keep saying "grip levers", the answer is no. Might want to use SRAM Level brakes, they have longer levers.
Is that price for just one specific right/ left brake?? Or for set?? 😊
John K on Jun 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Sold per side.
Does this come with cable?
Zinsser on Jun 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the brake is a complete, pre-bled unit with hose. It is just not shown in the photo.
Can I get uk/ moto style pre done? Can I just change the lever for that or can I even get it predone?
A shopper on Apr 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Sorry, we can't pre-cut your lines for you. You'll likely need to trim the brake lines during install anyways, as the brake lines are invariably too long out of the box. When cutting the lines, you may then re-install the lines flipped if you so wish. Very easy.
Hi, Im going to get The brakes, and I Will bring them to Mexico by plane, muy question is, can I have trouble bringing them by plane because they have oil ??
Ricardo P on Apr 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The mineral oil is non-corrosive so you should not have a problem.
Will these work on a specialized Enduro 2015 model
Juggead124 on Jun 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You could put them on any bike that has ability to mount disc brakes and that has wheels with hubs that are meant for disc brakes.
What size rotor can be used with this, or can any size be used?
Mick on May 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I am running shimano 160mm. 180mm and 230mm rotoros can be used with the correctly sized adaptor.
Can I use my Hayes rotors with these brakes or do you have to use the Shimano rotors?
Dave on May 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Not sure about Hayes, but I'm using SRAM Centerlines with these and it works great. I'm not sure why Hayes wouldn't work if they're to spec.
The SKU reads "Black front" and "Black Rear" ... One order comes with only one lever and calliper? Or it's the brake set with out the rotors?
Norts on May 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Rotors are not included, nor are the 160mm, 180mm, or 230mm brake adapters or mineral oil brake fluid.
Each order is one caliper, one brake.
