Shimano XTR BR-M9020 Trail Disc Brake

Shimano XTR BR-M9020 Trail Disc Brake

Technical terrain requires complete confidence in your equipment. At high speeds, nothing instills more confidence than knowing your brakes are ready and able to deliver unparalleled control and reliability in any situation. Shimano XTR brakes are arguably the best performing hydraulic disc brakes on the market, offered in two flavors: Trail and Race. The Race model is the no-frills, lightweight version while this Trail model offers a more adjustability and trail-tuned performance with only a minor weight penalty.

To provide highly adjustable, high-powered braking performance with no compromise, Shimano designed the XTR Trail M9020 hydraulic disc brakes. The integration of Servo-Wave brake-boosting technology into an XTR M9020 Trail brake generates gobs of lightweight stopping power (125 percent of the previous XTR benchmark, to be exact) that can be precisely rolled on and off with single-finger effort-giving you a better grip on the bar and ultimately better control of your ride.

Shimano was the first in the industry with full ceramic caliper pistons, but that’s not all the set XTR braking performance apart from the rest. The new XTR Trail M9020 brakes also feature a newly redesigned carbon/alloy lever for improved ergonomics, insulated pistons and radiator-fin-backed brake pads to shed performance-sapping heat, allowing the XTR M9020 brakes to maintain cool, quiet performance under extreme braking. These brakes not only save weight, but stay cool, delivering excellent, predictable brake perfromance.

Shimano XTR M9020 Lever features

The new XTR Trail M9020 lever sports an all-new ergonomic design and is equipped with Servo-Wave, allowing riders to precisely control 25 percent more power with highly-adjustable and responsive one-finger braking.

  • 125% Power rating (compared to non-Servo-Wave brake systems)
  • Short-stroke Servo-Wave mechanism modulates brake curve for quick engagement with excellent control
  • Tool-free lever reach-adjust
  • Free Stroke adjustment to dial in pad bite point
  • Newly redesigned lever for better ergonomics
  • Hinge-clamp mounting bracket
  • High-power BH90 hose for uncompromising performance
  • Combine with I-Spec II direct mount shifters to reduce handlebar clutter
  • Metal pad compound with aluminum cooling-finned backing plate (standard)
  • The forged M9020 caliper delivers a balance of light weight and power that resists performance-sapping heat better than ever before thanks to an industry-first full-ceramic piston and optional Ice Technology cooling-finned brake pads.
  • Uses Shimano Mineral Oil for low environmental impact and easy handling and bleeding
  • Pre-bled unit includes caliper, hose and lever. Includes compression fittings for hose shortening.
  • 74mm Post mount calipers
  • Weight: 255g Front, 270g Rear
  • Sold Singly, per side
  • Front Brake is supplied stock with a Left Hand Lever.
  • Rear Brake is supplied stock with a Right Hand Lever.

These brakes are awesome. Hitting the steep, tall downhills in Pisgah pushed my older XTRs to their limits. These handle the heat great, the cooling fins pull a lot of heat away from the rotors. These were easy to install, same as most hydraulic brakes. Would definitely recommend

shimano xtr brakes
I am an older woman who was able to install these brakes on my own (I had no bike mechanic experience). I cut the cable myself and had to bleed the brakes twice until I got it right! Working fantastic and I am really proud of myself. Local bike shop not up to par.

Mountain crushers! One finger operation for AM riding. Only issue can be when not frequently used, they will require some re burnishing before full stopping power is achieved.

The price is for one brake or a pair ?
Mr. Nobody on Jul 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: These are sold singly per side/wheel.
Anyone have actual stopping power data of these versus the XTR race?
DH Justin on Mar 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Good question. Shimano lists these as having 125% power over Non-Servo Wave systems, e.g. the Race brakes. Having ridden both the Race and Trail versions, I would definitely opt for the Trail version as the Servo-Wave does add quite a bit more stopping "oomph" for a pretty low weight penalty.
Does the kit come with extra olive and barb in case I need to shorten the hose?
DeVinci on Sep 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Olive and barb were in there as well as a bleed block and the plastic “vise” you can use to better insert the barb.
I have a a giant anthem with 185F and rear 160 rotors. Will these brake work or do I need new rotors???
A shopper on Dec 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The 160 is fine, and the 185 will work. Shimano is based on a 180 rotor, so in order to have the pads contact the rotor in the correct position, you will need to add some washers to space out the brake calipers. Be sure to add just enough washers so that the brake pads don't contact the rotor on the brake arms and enjoy.
Is it a REAR-RIGHT HAND? Thank you.
Harlem on Apr 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You can mount the lever/master cylinder on either side. I come from a motorcycle background and prefer my front brake on the right side.
I will use these on a custom application where I will need to use a custom longer hose. Is this possible?
Joseph C on Sep 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You can make whatever length hose that you desire, but these brakes come with ample hose to outfit a 29er.
Have the issues with XTR Trail brakes been fixed yet? The issue of wandering bite point.
Cycle on Apr 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I've been on the BR-M9020s for several months now and they always bite in the same spot!
will the XTR 9020s be compatilable with my Giant Anthem 29, i.e. direct swap. I have 185 front and 160 rear rotors?
A shopper on Dec 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I believe they are - as long as you have the proper adapter that will allow the brake to accept a 185mm rotor you should be good to go. almost half off is a great deal. xtr brakes are awesome, cant go wrong.
I do not need the i spec aspect of the brake levers. Can I get levers withou i spec?
David K on Oct 12, 2017
Is this for a set ( rear and front) or only rear???
