After about 1000miles of fairly hard riding both my front and rear XT M756 hubs are shot. I just need new cones up front, but nobody sells them. I generally take care of my stuff. Had metal shavings in the rear and rust in the front. Rear will not stay tight.

Buy an updated hub that you can still buy parts for and buy the spare parts at the same time

The Shimano XT line has always been a great line to offer near XTR level performance for just a minor bump in price over the LX level.

There's rarely been a "miss" in the XT line-up over the years and each generation improves on the last generation without sacrificing much.

A few things can be assured with XT hubs: they are phenomenally well constructed and sealed, they will last virtually forever if maintained, and they are very easy to work on. I bought a set from Jenson 9 years ago and finally tore them open last winter, assuming the worst after 9 years and many thousands of miles of water, salt, and mud. When I opened them up, the races looked like new and the grease was still semi-transparent. It's hard to argue with that.

I've ridden mine in super muddy east coast races, sandy desert rides, horribly rocky CO singletrack, etc. After 5 years the bearings still turn as smoothly as when new. Only overhauled 3 times in 5 years of hard riding/racing -- most of the time when I overhauled the bearings the grease (Phil Wood of course) looked new. This hub is a phenomenal deal. Only reason not to buy is If you have too much money or care a lot what people think, then buy Chris King or Phil Wood hubs.
