    Comments about Shimano HG61 12-36 29Er Cassette:

I wanted a 2nd pair of wheels for my 29er,one for street ,one for trail. My original 34t cassette was not very fast/efficient for street. The new 36t is a noticeable improvement on the 1st ride.It is sometimes slow to shift into top gear but am sure it can be adjusted. It's also very quiet. The Mavic blem rims are also very nice. The Magura brake discs seem very rugged and have more grip than the original Tektro discs.I'me keeping ALL of the items!

    Super Low Low

    By ssvqwnp

    Pros

    • Low Gear
    • Nice Spread

    Cons

    • Kinda heavy

    Best Uses

    • Hilly Commuting
    • MTB

    Comments about Shimano HG61 12-36 29Er Cassette:

I can use my middle ring for the majority of my climbs, but when the going gets tough, my 22t small ring turns my 26" mtb into a hill-climbing tractor! I have this on a M629 hub, so it shouldn't explode... It seems a bit heavy, but you'll never notice it with these gears. Shifts smooth with my Deore LX shifters, too.

    Comments about Shimano HG61 12-36 29Er Cassette:

I use this on a 3x9 set-up on a 29-er mostly used for XC type riding. Had several SRAM 11-34 cassettes before (PG950,970,980). I like the 12-36 ratio much better, since the jumps between gears at the high end are a bit smaller. It also means my 44 up front gets useful earlier, which saves me from wearing out the small cogs on pedally stretches. I don't use the 22-36 lowest gear a lot, but the 36 does come in useful in those situations where you can't look ahead and suddenly have to go up a steep bit in the middle ring.
Shifting is smooth, no problems whatsoever. I've only put a few hundred miles on it but so far the wear is minimal.
I would definitely recommend this cassette for 29-er owners, and also for 26-er riders who like a high cadence. Great product, great value.
THe only reasons not to buy are if you have and aluminum cassette body, or you're a weight weenie.

I use this cassette on my full suspension rig for some of the steep never endig climbs in the sierras. Works great!
Downside would have to be it's weight.

        Comments about Shimano HG61 12-36 29Er Cassette:

I can avoid the small chinring in most climbs with the extra two teeth on the 12 x 36 cassette. The day I received it it was $5.00 less on a competitors web site. But I am just glad to have it. Most of the time Jenson's is most cost effective. And it was delivered in 2 days standard shipping.

            Comments about Shimano HG61 12-36 29Er Cassette:

Changed from 11-34 to a 12-36 cassette My bike is rode just off road so the 36 tooth is killer and the added teeth on each cog is great.Mounted it on 26in wheel and turning a 2.4 mountain king.If your going to run this cassette use the freewheel hub made for it M529 or M629.I trashed my deore lx hub first ride. Now I got a M629 laced in now do that and you wont be sorry turned my cannondale hardtail into a climbing beast !!!!The hills in brown county park trails much easier to climb now
