My chains came with groupset I bought 12000 kms ago. That's a long time for a weekend rider like me. I've changed to an FSA crankset without any noticeable impact in the drive or shifting.
The lock pins are impossible to reconnect once they pop out of the link completely. But this is not an issue for me. I cut and reconnect at any link if i cannot find the last one I cut from when I remove and clean the chains after every 2000kms or so. My gears still drive and shift smoothly.

Shimano said I needed this chain instead of the 6700 chain to work with my 105/Ultegra triple setup and it works great. You need to use a Shimano pin to connect and it comes with two, but I am concerned cleaning as I usually remove the chain to do this.
