Remarkable value!
I bought this wheelset for my first from-the-ground-up bike build: A 1999 GT XCR-3000 full suspension mountain bike. I've been using this bike to get myself more acquainted with mountain biking, and as you can guess, that's made for a lot of good times and bad times! And at 225 lbs, I assume some of the bad hits and landings I've taken would have thrashed a low quality wheel.

One of the things that sold me on these wheels was their disc and rim brake compatibility, because my frame has no rear caliper mount, but I equipped it with a newer fork that does. The braking surface on the rear (with an Avid Single Digit 7 brake) doesn't seem very grabby, but I am so heavy on the front brake that I probably haven't even worn the surface in completely.

The Shimano XT hubs have been totally buttery over the nearly-two years that I've been running the wheels. And I haven't had to do a thing with them. The rear axle is just now starting to get a little wobble in it, to where I'll have to open it up and make sure everything's clean and adjusted.

These may not be very light wheels. I honestly don't know -- I didn't even pay attention to the weight of my components. I chose almost all of the parts to make my rig durable and worry-free. This wheelset has certainly fit the bill. They have performed excellently, especially given the very reasonable price.

Like most machine...
Like most machine built wheels these needed some attention out of the box. I stress relieved them, put them on the truing stand, tightened the spokes, and put them in alignment, and stress relieved them again. The bearings were a little tighter than I liked. So, I pulled them apart, greased the bearing and readjusted the cones. I've been running them for about a month. So, I'm going to take them off and readjust the cones at some point. The thing I like about the XT hubs are the fact they are cone/ball bearing. They are strong, but care must be taken to adjust them properly. I tend to run them just a hair on loose side. I've read reviews on these hubs from folks stating they had too much drag. If that's the case then you're running them too tight. I also like the fact that the cassett hub is steel. These are tough wheels, and if maintained should last a long time. The seals are fair, but routine maintenance is the key to longevity for these wheels. I giving them 4 stars only because they're more work than most folks want to take on, but then the price is great.

Most reliable and durable for the money
I've got over 6K miles on my set from 2006 on my 04 Epic. They need a slight trueing on the rear and to be retensioned in the front (still perfectly straight)I've never done any maintenance on these wheels or hubs.
They are on the heavy side but since I was up to 270 (250 now and dropping) and ride like bull through a china shop i won't complain. These rims took everything Ive thrown at them and just keep going

Got these to replace...
Got these to replace my custom built wheels that I was suffering with and couldn't be happier. I'm just about to redo the bearings in them and I've had them for 2 years. I'm a clydesdale, but not too heavy (240lbs) and I wanted a wheel that wouldn't be over-kill but strong enough for all mountain/XC riding. I haven't had to get the wheels trued many times and no proplems the hubs. I've been very happy with these wheels. Well worth the money for the wknd warrior.

XT/Rhyno Lite Wheels
If you are looking for a strong and durable set of wheels, these will work and are great for the price. If you are looking to save a lot of weight on your wheels for cross country these probably aren't what you need, however when compared to other heavy duty wheels, these are pretty light.

--Re-built 95' Diamondback WCF Carbon fiber hard tail. The wheels are STRONG and RELIABLE and AFFORDABLE. It was a challenge for me to find wheels that would work with caliper breaks from this generation that were not total garbage or really expensive!
--Don't seem to weigh a whole heck of a lot on this light frame
--I am 205 lbs and hard as hell on all my gear--been riding these from Jenson for 2 years strong with NO issues and NO need to True yet

PROS: Durable, Easy To Install, Baller

BEST USES: Road Biking, Mountain Biking, Upgrade, Casual Riding

I am 100% satisfied...
I am 100% satisfied with my purchase and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone else. Probably the best dollar for dollar value I have made on my bike.

Super strong, smooth rolling wheels
These rims are super tough. I ride in KY on some pretty gnarly single track with tons of roots and rocks and drops. These wheels stay true and roll smooth and fast. They will require maintenance each season like pulling the hubs, greasing them and repacking, but what wheelset doesn't. They are, of course, pretty heavy. I don't race, so it doesn't matter. Personally, I'd rather have something I can put on and ride and not have to fool around with all the time. This wheelset weighs 2302g and a new $990 Mavic Crossmax SLR 26" Disc Wheelset weighs only 1480 grams. Is 822g really worth an extra $840? No way. Not for me.
