Nice all-around mountain pedal
I recently used this pedal for my full suspension 29er build. They are the prefect balance of price and performance. I own the 500 series clipless on another mountain bike and these are well worth the extra few dollars. They hold so much better, they are a much sleeker, stable design, and most of all have a much better entry/ exit compared to the 500 series.

Great Product
This is a design that works perfect and will be used for years to come. Having the exo-cage really helps pedal with more stability when you can't get clipped in right away. The only thing I was disappointed in was that the exo-cage did not make contact with my shoe when clipped in. I was under the impression that the cage would allow more of a foot pad to disburse your weight from the one area that previous Shimano pedals only had. This is not the case. But, if you need to upgrade or replace pedals(like I did), for the price and quality of this product, you can't go wrong.

Wish I had switched a long time ago
I have been riding Florida trails with platform pedals for longer than I'd like to admit because I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to un-clip easily and would crash more often. These are my first "clipless" pedals and I couldn't be happier with them. As a precaution, I got the Sh56 Multi Release Spd Cleat (which looks identical to the cleats that came with the pedals except that these are chrome plated and the originals are painted flat black). I also adjusted the springs to their loosest setting. On my first ride I was instinctively turning my heals out and unclipping with no effort. In fact, after a few rides I am now adjusting the springs a little tighter to avoid popping out on heavy bumps and jumps. Pedaling is more efficient and I don't have to worry about keeping my shoes on the pedals in the slippery rain and mud. A friend got these pedals about the same time I did and he likes them just as much. I am using Shimano Mt33 Spd Mtb Shoes (also purchased from Jenson USA) and like the combination. My friend went with cam lock bike shoes rather than lace ups. He said they provide a more rigid connection to the pedal but I like the casual look and feel of mine. The pedals really are not good for use without bike shoes but you can ride around the neighborhood in plain shoes in a pinch. Get these pedals!

It Does the Job Right
Love them. They look sharp on my RM Blizzard. I have been using the Ritchey Comp Mountain Pedals for years and they have worked for me. But the Shimano M785 XT-PD Trail Clipless Pedals works even better. The extra surface area on the Shimano's seem to click my cleats on without having to feel and paw my way in to the right placement, especially during the more technical areas of the trails. During the accents, I find that my feet are locked on the bike and are not dancing on the pedals witch transfers to more power and less energy burned. When I have to press the eject button during unexpected bailouts, the pedals effortlessly clicks off. Shimano has the SPD formula right. It breaths new confidence for me in the trails.

Excellent for 1st timer
Going from flats to clipless for first time, I tried CB Mallets, and hated it, getting out was hard when I was in a hurry. I tried again with these, and now I'm getting into this clipless thing. Easy in and out, especially with the Multi-release cleats. And there is enough platform to step on if you can't get clipped in right away.

Great value and performance
These are my second set that I got for my single speed 29er. If you are running clip less pedals you can't go wrong with these. Best value for performance in my opinion. Especially it you buy them at Jenson USA!

Good bye Cranks Candy
I use to have Shimano clips about 12 years ago and it was difficult to unclip which caused a few 'oh man' going down with the bike. In muddy conditions were horrible so I made the switch to Candy. It is lighter but does not have that good feel of knowing that you are clipped in. A few of my riding buddies have the M785 and XTR version and they love it. The platform gives the surety of that you are on the pedal and don't have to worry about slipping off in critical non-clipped in moment. One thing I like is the feel that I am clipped in and the adjustable spring tension makes it easy to unclip. No more Candy and I'm sold on this M785.
We haven't had much rain here in California so I can't say how well it perform in muddy conditions.
