Comments about Shimano XTR M986 Rear Derailleur:

I put this is on my newly aquired recumbent Catrike Expedition do to some back issues. The trike had thumb shifters so I switched over to the 9 speed XTR off my mountain bike did not work as well as I would have liked. So I bit the bullet and purchased this 10 speed XTR Derailleur . I now have 400 miles on trike and with proper shifting devices it operates flawlessly with length of chain that is on a recumbent 3 chains lengths just thing what it would do with only 1 chain length.

Comments about Shimano XTR M986 Rear Derailleur:

I did a complete upgrade of my drivetrain and this was a major part. Wow, I'm running this with a XT 3x crank, XT cassette, KMC Gold 10SL chain and XT trail pedals with XT B-spec. shifters on a 2013 Giant XTC. This derailleur in conjunction with these parts is beautiful! Effortless shifting and shift on the fly performance. Would highly recommend the XTR shadow plus set-up. No more chain slap, keeps everything right where it should be...on the bike!
I would say next to buying a good set of wheels, this would be a must for the next upgrade on your bike.
Thanks to Jenson for there unbelievable service, prices and honesty, You guy's rock, keep up the outstanding work!

Comments about Shimano XTR M986 Rear Derailleur:

Put this derailer on a 1x10 conversion on my bike and my daughters. Added a 42 tooth rear chain ring and a custom b screw cassette clearance adjustment. The derailer works great on my Orbea ALma 29er but has an issue on my daughter's Scott hardtail in one high gear. Not enough of an issue to force a change back. Not the derailers fault as they weren't made for huge rear chain rings. The only complaint I have is the resistance to shifting in a few gears due to, I assume, the clutch. Otherwise works great at eliminating chain slap. I am happy.

This derailleur has been great! I have not noticed much with the clutch system, but then again, I live in Illinois so probably not much of a proving ground!

Comments about Shimano XTR M986 Rear Derailleur:

I installed this on my 9 speed xt drive train even though it is a 10spd derailleur. I had to use a 9 speed SRAM shifter that has the same 1:1 ratio as a 10 SPD shimano. Works almost perfect. The clutch is great I have not dropped a chain since switching. No more chain slapping either. I have noticed the chain loosened a bit after a few months, but the clutch has adjustment capability.
