I've used Shimano and sram brakes (they're not as bad as some people claim) for years but I've always had a fondness for the Shimano stuff because it just works, every time. Now I can add to the list of working every time.. quite. I have a gift of making most rotors squeal like a banshie, even previous Shimano rotors (the old 960's were great singers), but I cannot for the life of me get these things to make a peep. I love them and have recommended them to my friends who have also had similar results. Awesome rotors! Get 'em and stop worrying about the noise.

Ive got the non ice XT, but has the same center hole, where the axle goes thru. If you use 20mm front axle. Be careful when washing your bike, cuz water can get trapped between the center hole and axle seal.Since the rotor center hole is smaller then the spacing for the 20mm axle. I have 2012 crossmax st wheels with horrible axle seal design. The disc side bearing seized cuz of no water run off and poorly designed seals. Not a good combo wheel and rotor if you wash your bike often.Im going back to solid rotors with the new SLX, it has cut outs between the mounting bolt holes for water run off. But i do love the design of the xt 2 piece rotors.Looks sic and worked flawlessly. Oh and with the crossmax wheels? A whole other story. Actually in the mavic crossmax review in this website.

Most powerful rotor I ever had, keeps cool even in steep and long descents. Of course it's best combined with Deore XT caliper and Ice pads.
Awesome, one-finger only & light touch on the lever, in any situation.
Only open question is durability, it's only a couple hundred miles old.

Comments about Shimano XT RT-86 6 Bolt Icetech Rotor:

Finally upgraded brakes on a 2003 Slayer. Kept the exisitng Deore calipers, and changed from 160mm shimano stainless rotors to 180mm Icetech rotors. I've always had problems with brake fade on steep descents, but haven't experienced it once since the upgrade!! Although expensive, for under $150 it totally revamped my 10+ year old brake system.

Comments about Shimano XT RT-86 6 Bolt Icetech Rotor:

The XT rotor is an awesome rotor that works great. Unfortunately, 4 out of 6 of the rotors I have bought from Jenson have been warped/bent right out of the box. I have bought 203mm, 180mm, and 160mm. They work great when straight and true, but it may take several attempts to get a straight one. I would buy at a local shop to reduce the hassle of shipping them back to find a straight one.

For my cross country hardtail I downsized from 185mm Avid rotors to 160mm Shimano rotors. The XT rotors (and calipers) are super easy to setup and perform flawlessly. The rotor are quiet even when wet or dirty.

I use these rotors (six bolt) with the xt levers on my Giant Reign. Night and day difference compared to the stock rotors. I have used them in very sandy/ dusty conditions and there is no fade. They were bought as an impulse buy but there are absolutely no regrets now.
