Comments about Shimano Internal Hub Grease:
After about 5000 miles of almost daily use, my Shimano Nexus 3-speed coaster hub was starting to make an awful screech when the brake was applied. After doing a bit of research, I found that the lubricant was old and worn out and I needed to put some more lubricant in the hub. Maybe some other lithium-based lubricant will do the job, but I didn't take any chances and ordered the Shimano grease. The procedure was easy: After removing the rear wheel, I opened up the hub on the coaster-brake side, pulled out the coaster brake shoes, wiped out the dirty old grease, and squeezed a generous amount of this goop in the hub, reinstalled the shoes, topped it all off with some more goop and re-assembled. The improvement was noticeable. The hub operates more quietly and smoothly, and the brakes are smooth and quiet.
