I had these rims built up with Hope Pro 2 EVOs with Wheelsmith Spokes, Brass Nipples, and A SRAM 990 Cassette…a very good combo with great feel. Actually these are my first non-stock rims. What a difference they make. I also made the jump to clipless at the same time. I find myself clearing climbs I have never before. I love the set up.
One huge minus--the reason I did not give five stars--is the trouble mounting tires. Don't watch the Stan's video. It looked so easy for Stan; he just put it on by hand using the middle groove. A word of advice, do not mount up a Navengals. It took me over an hour, then I let the bike shop work on it for another hour...success...until I get a flat on the trail. I am going to have to find out what tires Stan was using.
This really frustrates me because I love the rims and wheel build. They are supposed to be a "light" XC rim, but they handle my 285 on drops and jumps with relative out any issue.
For summary--they are light and strong, look good and build up nice and true, but you have to very selective on what tires you use with them. Overall they are a great purchase. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is the tire mounting issue which I now know to be well documented on the web.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
