I used to use needle nose pliers but the spokes would get in the way. This tool allows you to remove the core faster.

The Presta side works only on Presta valves that have REMOVABLE CORES (none of mine do).

I find this tool to be essential for tubeless conversions - i like to remove the valve core to enable a greater air flow from a floor pump to get a tyre seated initially, before replacing the core for a final inflation. I use non-ust tyres & rims, which can be very tricky to get an initial seal.
The only small gripe I have with this tool is that being quite small, it can be difficult to get a good grip with tight valve cores.
