    Surly 1x1 Delivers!

I used this fork to convert an old Hardrock to a 69er. Couldn't have been easier to work with and had JUST enough clearance for 2.55 fat tire!

      Comments about Surly 1X1 Fork:

I threw these on a 90's Klein mountain bike to replace the oem Rock Shox Judy's that were on it. I converted the bike to a commuter, and these were essential. I'm very happy with this purchase.

      Comments about Surly 1X1 Fork:

I purchased the 80mm forks. I installed these forks on my hardtail for commuting which includes occasional off-road paths, drop-offs (1' max), jumps, and descending stairs. After such rides, there is no sign of wear. They are really sturdy.

I have to say they were difficult to install, particularly when cutting steerer tube. Figuratively speaking, it was as hard as a diamond. I ruined my tubing cutter blade in this process! I guess it means the tube is really strong.

Ride wise, they don't really give good grip for trail usage and neither do cheap suspension forks. Cheap suspension forks added extra weight which translate to sluggish agility. With Surly, at least I can position my bike easier and faster on trail. It's also easier to bunny hop from one line to another since there is no sag to compensate.

        Comments about Surly 1X1 Fork:

Simple and cheap upgrade from a 10 yr old fork with suspension.
Amazed at how much energy is saved vs old shocks when riding hard on pavement (i.e. acceleration and up steep hills).
Don't forget you will need a new star nut and a pipe cutter to install your new fork. Pretty straight forward if you have the right parts and tools. I did not have a star nut install tool but managed with some careful hammering and a right-sized socket.

              Comments about Surly 1X1 Fork:

I use this fork on a Marin aluminum hardtail MTB frame. I had some reservations given some of the reviews I've read recently about the finish of Surly products, but they were unfounded as this fork has clean welds and a high quality paint job.

The tire clearance is truly 2.7 inches as advertised. It's also fairly stiff, but has a more forgiving ride quality than an older Kona Project 2 that I've used over the years. Chalk it up to not being a straight-leg design.

If you're looking for a suspension height adjusted rigid steel work that does the job without weighing too much, and you don't need disc brake mounts, look no further!

                Comments about Surly 1X1 Fork:

Good, reliable fork that does everything it says. The roads in Montreal are pretty bad in general and this thing handles them well, although I'm riding on 29x1.9 slicks so that might absorb some of the punishment as well. Replaced stock Rock Shock Judy TT's with Surly 1x1 Fork for a smoother city ride. Well worth it.

                Comments about Surly 1X1 Fork:

I got this fork for an older rigid steel single speed, and I am totally happy. The fork has not failed me, even though it's been through some serious abuse. Super strong and nimble, this fork will probably last the rest of my life. Only thing is, as steel forks go, this one is a little heavier, not as heavy as others for sure, but you can't beat the performance to price ratio.

Slam that stem and cut the steer tube for maximum weight savings!
