I love these levers. Probably the best cost : functionality ratio of any component on my bike. I have a fixie, but prefer to have brakes (not just for safety, but for the hand position created by the levers).

The one (fairly) minor drawback was that the plastic "hood bodies" were formed in such a manner that they couldn't clear the ends of the bar tubes. There was too much plastic in the way. A poor mold design on Tektro's part. I took some 60-grit sandpaper and wrapped it around a magic marker and was able to sand-away enough plastic to finally allow the levers to slide onto the bars. You literally need to do the work that the manufacturer should have already done to their mold-blank.

But the levers are really inexpensive, and cost literally the same as my Dia-Compe levers did back in 1984. They are very comfortable and very stable.

I bought these because they were cheaper than the Cane Creek models brake hoods. The pull is a little harder than the Cane Creeks I have on another retro bike that I built up, but that could be because those brakes are a different brand. That isn't the main issue they do stop fine but that is also because I installed a set of Cool Stops brake shoes. Where the rub is I have only put 200+ miles on these and both brake hoods have loosened up twice, the first time it happened I thought it was me not getting it tight enough but since then I concluded its because I do put my weight on the hoods. The newer bikes I ride have 105 and Ultegra brake/shifters and the other retro bike with the Cane Creeks have not had this issue after thousands of miles. If I could do it again I would have spent the extra money and gone with the Cane Creeks.

I have used these on two different touring bikes with linear pull brakes. They work very well and are superbly made for the price. I highly recommend them for anyone running bar end or downtube shifters on a touring or road bike with linear pull brakes!

Either riding on the hoods or in the drops, these feel like a more expensive road lever.

I'm running these on my cyclocross bike with Hayes Cx-5 disc brakes. I was worried at first because I've heard a lot of complaints about the few short pull mechanical disc brakes on the market, but this combo seems to work fine. Plus my whole braking system came in under $150.

Comments about Tektro RL520 Ergo Brake Levers:

I have a pair of these on a Surly Fargo and will shortly be building up another drop-bar mountain bike. If you want to use discs and drops, these with bar-ends are the way to go. Comfortable on the hoods (not that I ride on them often), ergonomic levers so I can easily grab them while in the drops. No durability issues so far despite numberous crashes.

I put these on a Surly Long Haul Trucker. I wanted lots of stopping power with v-brakes and they delivered. For the cost, I'm not sure how you could do any better. They are ever-so-slightly less comfortable when riding on the hoods than my pricey brake levers. But I don't think you'll find a better deal. These would be perfect for someone wanting to build up a secondary cheap build.

Used these brake levers to convert my Specialized Sirrus Hybrid from flat bars to drop bars, combined with Shimano bar-end shifters. They work well, are well-priced, and the installation was simple and straightforward.

They do exactly what they're supposed to do. There's not many drop bar v-brake levers to choose from so that makes the job easier. Can stop with two fingers easily from the top of the hoods while moving along no problem. My hands rest comfortably on and around the hoods too.

They have a high quality finish on the black ones that I ordered.
Functionality is spot on, no complaints at all.

If you want to get drop bar levers for your V-Brakes these are the least expensive(notice I didn't say "cheapest") that you can find.
