The Teva Crank® shoe was designed specifically for mountain bikers. First, they began with using their Spider365 Rubber. Spider365 Rubber holds its grip in all sorts of environments, from wet and muddy, to hot and dry. Slipping off your pedals is no fun, and is quite painful. Therefore, Teva designed the Crank shoe with their PedalLINK technology. PedalLINK outsole was designed to link up the pegs on your pedal with your shoes. I bought these shoes to fill a lot of roles. I commute, and as a bartender, I spend most of my workday on my feet. I also like to ride the trails whenever possible, and don't want to have to swap out pedals just to go ride my favorite loop. These shoes fill those rolls very well. There sublimely comfortable, and they show almost no wear after over month of every day abuse. They look good too. my girlfriend almost broke up with me when i told her I was getting tevas. but when she saw them, well, it was a good night. The only downside is that at least with pedals that have molded in pegs (I'm using oddesey twisted)) they don't quite have the superglue grip I was expecting. Duct tape yes, but definitely not superglue. With these shoes and the oddesey pedals, I don't feel quite as planted on some of the rocky technical sections of my local trails. I'm going to try a set of metal pedals with screwing pegs, and I'm sure that will help.
