Comments about The North Face Dirt Merchant Jersey '12:
I was looking for an all-around jersey for riding my bike around town to do errands and MTB riding. This one seems to be the ticket for those days when you want to go to the bank or grocery store without that "sausage casing" look. This is a great everyday jersey for riding around on the trail or in town. It has a fit halfway between a MTB jersey and an athletic shirt, and the colors are really deep and vivid in person. It has one small pocket on the left side, just big enough to store a single key, for getting back into your vehicle/home after the ride, presumably.
The material is light, breathable and doesn't soak up water like cotton would. It also doesn't feel plastic-y like your typical polyester jerseys either. Build quality of the jersey feels slightly above average, but nothing super special. There is an interesting loop sewn into the seam of the front of the neck hole that appears to be for the purpose of removing the jersey without stretching the neck. It rubs my neck in a weird way so I cut it off.
The jersey is visually really nice enough to go do anything in really, so you could go from the trail to a casual restaurant or class without looking really weird which is a big plus in my book.
I typically wear a Medium or Small size jersey due to having a 39" chest. After trying on both sizes, I opted for the Small for a closer fit, however the Medium would have been more loose and relaxed. The small size is not remotely skin tight but drapes across my torso without bunching or being too tight in any weird way. I like the fit a lot.
The only thing I didn't like was that with the smaller size the neck hole was a little tight to get my head through, which is common. However, I have a thicker neck than most. Also, I almost wish it had a rear pocket, but it's geared more towards use with a hydration pack, so it's a null point. Get this jersey!
