ATAC pedals are truly a classic. Time continues the tradition with the Alium for 2004, a budget-minded system that offers the same ATAC easy entry and exit and biomechanical float and rotation as top-end Time products. With ATAC, foot retension is independent of spring tension. That means you can crank down the binding mechanism without worry that you wont be able to release. ± 5° of angular float paired with ± 3 mm of lateral float means theyre knee friendly, too!
Item includes two pedals and cleats. Cleats are compatible with shoes drilled for the SPD pattern.

I got a set of these to learn on before I got my Guzzler. I liked them so much that I got another set with my guzzler so as not to have to switch pedals or cleats. ive ridden in snow, ice, mud, sand, mud so thick it had to be scraped off the shoe with a stick, gotten pooh, mud, ice, sticks, rocks, leaves stuck in the cleats, pedals or both and have NEVER gotten stuck clipped in. a couple of times I had to remove some of the supermud from the pedals to find the springs to clip in but still was able to. Ive worn the bearings out(200lb aggressive XC rider 1k miles+) so Im stepping up to the XS. if I had to do it again Id still get these and unless you want to step up in price these are an excellent pedal. Id recomend them to anyone from newbie to pro. only time will tell if the XS are a better value than the Alium

I bought these pedals based on the reviews that I found in this website. I was somewhat disappointed with the performance of Shimano pedals M520 and XT. I didn't like them because of their tendency to accumulate mud and unreliable exit characteristics in emergency situations. The Time Alium pedals up to this moment have been more disappointing than the Shimano pedals. They are harder to clip in or out than the Shimanos that I have used before. By the way the cleats are correctly installed. Maybe as the cleats wear increases they will be more reliable but that is only a possibility. I think the attributes that make a good clipless pedal are the following: reliable entry and reliable exit in emergency situations, ability to shed mud and durability. I do not count the ability to stay clipped because even the cheapest pedals are good doing this. If my Time Alium pedals performance improves in the future I will write another review to notify it but I do not think that I will use them for a long period of time if I do not see any improvement soon.

I have these pedals on my cyclocross bike for use on asphalt and dirt roads. After almost a year performance is still flawless. After 3500 miles the bearings are still completely smooth and silent. Clip in/out still is not a problem so I haven't had to replace the cleats yet. I have used them in mud without any clogging issues. Before these I had Crank Brothers Eggbeater SL which were prone to annoying clicking noises. Thankfully that is not a problem with the Time pedals. This is a hell of a pedal for less than $60! And mine are made in France, not the Far East!
I have installed this on three of my bikes and a half dozen other friends and relatives bikes. They are easy to learn to use. As the cleat wears it gets easier to clip in and out and eventually need to replace the cleat because it comes out too easily. As testament to their durability, my mountain bike pedals have survived two broken cranks with only scratches and gouges but they continue to operate flawlessly.
I've had these pedals for a year and not one single problem with them. I have done NO maintenance what so ever on them and they still work fine. I have wrecked, slammed them into roots, ect with no damage other than scratched paint. For the price and durability they can't be beat-BUY THEM!!!! Note: previous reviewer said they were hard to unclip. I noticed they are somewhat hard to unclip from when they are NEW. After a short time they either loosen up or cleats wear some. Unclipping is now extremely easy.

very happy I ride 3 times a week in mud, rain, sand. No problems at all. using shimano m086 shoes. I am thinking of buying a second pair for my road bike. Did 32 miles and very comfortable
I'm happy with them. Feel solid, well built and cheap with a better design than other pedals in the same class.
Came on the bike, still using it today. No maintance required, Doesn't break when it hits a rock (unlike others I have used).Really easy to use.I can not rave enough about this pedal.
This is my second pair of time pedals and the first pair has over 1200 miles on them. I will always buy Time Pedals. They are the best. PERIOD.
like I said, great float and clipping is excellent! I will use these until I wear them out and buy the carbons next time...
After researching pedals for a period of time, I decided to get these. Once the original pedals were off, these pedals were easy to install. Thecleats were easy to install in my SPD compatible mtb shoes as well. They arevery easy to clip into and out of, yet very secure when clipped in. These aremy first clipless petals. In the past I've just used toe clips.
