Great all-rounder

Comments about Schwalbe Hans Dampf Trailstar Tire:

It's hard to give a tire perfect marks when all tires consist of compromise in one way or another. These truly are Hans Dampf meaning jack of all trades. The tread is reversable so you can extend the life on these puppies which is nice since they tend to ear quickly in back. Just don't skid every corner and you should be fine for a while.

This nice big volume tire feels great and they roll fairly quick too. Setting up tubless is super easy if you're into that.

Comments about Schwalbe Hans Dampf Trailstar Tire:

THIS IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST ALL-AROUND TIRE I HAVE EVER RIDDEN! I HAVE RUN AGGRESSIVE 2.2-2.4" TIRES FOR ABOUT THE PAST 5 YEARS, AND HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING FROM MAXXIS HIGH ROLLERS/HIGH ROLLER 2/MINION, SPECIALIZED CONTROL & BUTCHER, CONTINENTAL AND HUTCHINSON TIRES. THESE ARE THE BEST OUT OF ALL OF THEM!

THE TRIPPLE COMPOUND GIVES THE ENTIRE TIRE A SOFT FEEL, VERY GRIPPY SIDE KNOBS WHILE KEEPING THE MIDDLE TREAD FROM WEARING FAST. MY FRONT TIRE CAN HANDLE LOOSE PACK TURNS MUCH BETTER, AND I RIDE MUCH MORE CONFIDENT BECAUSE OF IT.

I ALSO HAVE TO SAY I AM QUITE IMPRESSED WITH THE SNAKESKIN SIDEWALLS. I SPENT 3 FULL DAYS THRASHING ALL OVER MAMMOTH WHILE RUNNING THESE TIRES TUBLESS, FULLY EXPECTING TO TEAR A SIDEWALL, BUT THEY HELD UP REALLY WELL WHILE TAKING A FEW HITS TO THE SIDE. I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO RUN THEM TUBELESS, I RECOMMEND ABOUT 3 OR 4 SCOOPS OF STANS (DOUBLE THE REC. AMOUNT)... AND FEAR NOT ABOUT NEEDING A SHOP COMPRESSOR TO MOUNT THESE! THEY MOUNT JUST FINE WITH A STANDARD FLOOR PUMP THROUGH A PRESTA VALVE.

I NOW HAVE 3 OF MY 4 BIKES RUNNING THESE TIRES, AS WELL AS BOTH OF MY RIDING BUDDIES ROCKING THEM. THEY ARE THE BEST!!!

Cons

Comments about Schwalbe Hans Dampf Trailstar Tire:

I've been through three sets of these now. The first set was the softer Trailstar compound and they wore out in just a month or so (granted, I do ride a lot). Grip was amazing but at this price they just didn't last long enough. The side knobs were just ripping right off the tire.

The last two sets I ran were the slightly harder Pacestar compound. They lasted longer but still not nearly as long as other tires I've run that cost a LOT less.

A note about size - these run BIG, which I think is awesome. They're really beefy for a 2.35, bigger than a 2.5 Maxxis Minion and even slightly bigger than 2.35 Kenda Nevagals (which also run really big for their size).

I loved these tires, but I've abandoned them in favor of the single ply Minions which seem to have more ultimate edge grip and will HOPEFULLY last longer (and surely cost less).
