Bought this because I do not like the bulkiness of traditional body armour. I was skeptical on how well it will protect me. First crash proved me wrong. Not a scratch on me and armour was not damaged.
Its light and you don't overheat. I live in a very hot area (32C+ typical summer) and was concerned the tighter fitting armour would be too hot. Not the case at all. It breaths very well.

As long as you do your research you should be happy with this piece of kit. I have read reviews that hack on this piece of TLD kit because it doesn't protect as well as hard moulded full body jackets. But the deal is it isn't trying to be that. It is essentially a lightweight moderate piece of protection. Its great that you can customize it by removing pieces of the foam padding (good feature for washing it as well). So far I have only had two decent crashes in this and it protected me like I expected.

I wanted protection without wearing a full pressure suit and this is perfect! Consider it a must-have piece of equipment for trail riding, skiing, snowboarding and similar activities. However, if you are reaching for the full-face helmet then this is probably not burly enough. Ordered this in a L (same size as my street clothes) and the fit is snug enough to wear under a jersey or ski jacket without being restrictive. The material is comfortable and breathable but I have not worn it in hot weather yet. Most of the pads are removable so you can customize the protection for your style, terrain or sport. The mesh cloth would certainly tear as an outer layer when grating yourself through rocks but should handle moderate impacts. Summary: For high-speed, big consequence riding this is not enough protection, but it is spot on for everything else.
