Comments about Troy Lee Designs EG5550 Forearm/Elbow:

The elbow pads fits comfortably. You won't know is there after a while. It's better than other strap products as it can come lose during the ride. it gets warm on a hot day. It would be perfect if they design it more ventilation on the inside of the arms.

Comments about Troy Lee Designs EG5550 Forearm/Elbow:

After a recent spill where I ended up in the ER with some stitches I had this crazy thought - maybe padding might be a good idea!

After reading a lot of reviews on Amazon, JensonUSA.com, and BackCountry.com, I decided to go with the TLD EG 5550 elbow/forearm guards and the KG 5450 knee/shin guard.

In short, the EG 5550 is an excellent choice. I'm 5'7 / 155lbs, and went with the medium size. Using TLD's measurement charts, medium is the size they recommend and it's a perfect fit.

    Key benefits:

    - Lightweight
    - Very breathable
    - You honestly forget you're wearing them
    - They will not slip

The only con for these is that because there are no adjustable straps, the measurement needs to be spot on. Likewise, you'll have difficulty in cold weather trying to slip a thermal base layer sleeve underneath these.

On the knee/shin guard side of things, I went with extra small (according to the sizing chart - that's what matched), and it was a snug fit. However I felt it slid down when I pedaled so I ended up returning them. There are a lot of great reviews for the KG 5450 so I wouldn't count it out on my part, but again with no straps it needs to be a dead perfect fit.

Although protection is the top priority when it comes to protective armor, comfort is up there too, and the material that TLD uses is excellent. Because if you're going to be wearing pads for hours in hot weather, you're going to want something that isn't going to drive you crazy with discomfort.

Comments about Troy Lee Designs EG5550 Forearm/Elbow:

I am 39, so I like these pads for the added sense of security in case I fall. I mostly trail ride, but that includes some descents and I am getting more interested in all mountain riding. These pads are perfect. You have to get the size right, and for me the medium was the ticket: they have the right balance of snug to stay in place but not so tight my arms feel constricted. I am very comfortable wearing these for long rides. The padding is solid too. I haven't taken any spills yet, but they are plenty rugged and I know there will be a time where these will pay for themselves. I especially like how the padding extends down the forearm, which makes these ideal for those riding way more hard core than me.

Comments about Troy Lee Designs EG5550 Forearm/Elbow:

I put these on and leave them on for the ride. I've watched people crash and then groan about how their pads were in their backpack. This is a good, lightweight elbow/forearm pad that stays in place. I got the medium which fits me well. My frame is about the size of Marky Mark Wahlberg. I also got the medium knee/shin pads. Those don't fit quite as well, and tend to slip down once sweaty while pedaling.

I purchsased these to season's ago with the knee and shin pads. I have been pretty pleased with this product. They are a little tricky to get on and off, but they stay in place pretty well. The protection is awesome, but if slide on they will move. I am happy with this, good protection and great price.

Comments about Troy Lee Designs EG5550 Forearm/Elbow:

I turned 50 a few months ago and still enjoy riding challenging trails, especially now that I have a new Yeti SB-66. My wife and riding partners have been concerned I'm going to get hurt since I'm the most aggressive descender in my group. So I decided to look into some protection. I checked out SixSixOne, Fox, etc. but found them to be bulky and restrictive. I wanted something that would allow me to be able to ride up as well as down the trail. My LBS recommended Troy Lee Designs. The EG5550 appears to be just what I was looking for. They provide good protection without being bulky. They are slim and slip on without any straps. It does take a some effort to get them into place but so far I am very happy with my choice.
