The design for the Lopes Knee Guard is patterned after Brian Lopes’ personal handmade knee guards that he used to great success. Lopes’ design uses a unique two piece design with a separate neoprene sleeve that has a custom molded polycarbonate plastic guard sewn to the neoprene sleeve. Keeping your legs comfortable is the ventilated foam that is breathable and offers a great fit.

I brought these pads because of the two piece design. You can use just the light under pad for less gnarly trail and add the outer pad when things really get rough. I liked them, and they worked well in most cases, but I had a crash where the wind blew my wheels out from under me and I ended up sliding down the landing of the jump. The left pad slid six inches down and I wound up losing a lot of skin off that knee. I still use the under pad on some rides but I had to get another set of heavy duty pads because I can't rely on these to stay in place.
