I bought a Koga Globetraveller that came with XT V brakes with the parallelogram shoe mounts. They squealed so much I stopped riding the bike. I tried different types of grease. Different types of shoes. Nothing worked. Lately, Shimano designers seem to have confused complexity with sophistication. I'm very impressed with everything I have bought from Sram/Avid. These brakes, some Attack 9 speed grip shifts and chains that I can repeatedly remove and clean without buying riveted master links.
Sram/Avid seems to understand the importance of simplicity, serviceability and realized, rather than rationalized, performance improvements.

Bought these as an upgrade to a touring bike. Really happy with them, was tempted to swap them with the XTR V-Brakes on my hard tail mountain bike. I ran these with full fenders and they had enough clearance. I'm decent at setting up brakes, but I think set-up is easier than a typical V-Brake.
I have my own custom built MTB, based on a 1994 KHS Chromalloy frame. That should tell you right away that I am not wowed by every flashy new product which hits the market. This bike has traveled 5 continents, and tens of thousands of miles. I not overly impressed with discs - I need a reliable simple-to-maintain system when in remote places, so I stick with V-brakes. I've had these Avid 7's now for over 2 years, they do the job every time, last and last, don't break down, and require minimal maintenance. I won't look elsewhere when I need to replace them (a long time in the future).
No matter what condition or type of ride, these breaks slow or stop me as quickly as I need. They are light, they look great, they are a no brainer upgrade. I'm using them on Mavic crossride ub wheels, which are nicely milled, which may add to how well they are working for me.
Bought a cheap tandem to help rehab my wife's knee after surgery. Original brakes scary going downhill. Put these guys on, went for a solo test ride, almost endo'd.
They are great brakes, good for downhill and good for stopping quickly. Also what Homer said they are long lasting reliable brakes show little signs of wear.
Great breaks for XC and technical XC downhill sections that require good breaking power handle like a much more expensive unit. Pads have great wear ability after 20 times on the hard downhill section of the trail hardly can tell signs of wear with them. You will not be disappointed with them for the price. The rear suffered a monster hit during a wicked crash and I thought for sure a replacement was going to be in order but I was so wrong had some minor scratching on the left post mount and a slight bend in the QR holder, but was easily fixed right then to finish out the day of hard riding.
Fast shipping (west coast to east coast) accurate order, available when I needed it. Very satisfied with my purchase and will probably use your sight for most of my future equipment purchases.
Overall I'm extremely happy with my purchase, the difference between these and my factory brakes is night and day. I'm a bigger guy @215lbs and I no longer get "edgy" when going downhill, these have enough power to stop me with no problems at all. Silky smooth engagement, no noise whatsoever, and extremely affordable price-point make these v-brakes an extremely good deal.
