Comments about TRP CX9 Mini Brakeset:
I wanted to start riding my cross bike in the hills more (a lot of unpaved climbs in Colorado), but the TRP Euro-X's I had on there were terrible for steep downhills (great for CX races, not so much for mountain-town descents). Read about the CX-9's in Velonews, decided to give them a try.
One big issue: I have Shimano 9-speed, with levers that have a different reach than 10-speed -- and the CX-9 are for the newer levers ONLYS. Unfortunately I had to figure this out for myself: The manual is terrible, very unclear. The product description on the TRP website, on Jenson's website, and on pretty much every other website is also unclear. It would have been helpful to have some kind of compatibility chart or guide in the literature or site somewhere.
So this is more a word to the wise than a review: Make sure you know which levers you're shopping for! The latest word I got is I should have bought the 8.4's; I'll return the 9's and buy those.

Comments about TRP CX9 Mini Brakeset:
Phenomenal! I wasn't convinced that mini-v's would be better than cantilever brakes, but these changed my mind. They have serious stopping power.

Comments about TRP CX9 Mini Brakeset:
These pricey things are very beautiful and provide a ton of stopping power. They also come with and work with the thick pads of a road brake (instead of the thin pads which normally come with a v-brake set-up). I love that extra rubber both because it gives more wear and feels like it allows a bit more modulation.
The manual, however, is poorly written. And it was literally impossible for me to set these brakes up within the tolerances recommended in that manual on my very average Jamis Nova frame. I decided to go for it anyhow, even though the distance of cable between the end of the noodle and the fixing bolt was a good 10mm greater than the recommended max. I was leery and thought I might be putting myself in danger. Despite this, I've ridden that set-up for several months. They work great. And I'm really enjoy the brakes. So go figure.
I'm using these with levers designed for linear pull brakes, which also wasn't clearly the right choice based on the TRP website and the literature accompanying the brakes.
