I bought an old no-name 27"-wheel road bike from a thrift store as my first foray into road bikes. These Vittorias were a big part of the process of bringing it back from the dead.

I bought the nice, wide 1 1/4 version because I am a heavy rider at about 225 lbs, and because the roads around here are pretty rough. So far they seem like pretty good tires. They have reasonably good grip for they kind of work they see from me (commuting and casual rides).

Sadly, I am already noticing cracking in the sidewalls in a couple places. It's probably nothing to worry about, but I hope it's not a sign of things to come.

I bought several of these in different sizes for some old wheels of mine, and for my son's old bike. The low cost was what encouraged me to purchase them.

I have done some commuting (13 miles each way) and some longer weekend rides (70 to 100 miles) on them. To be honest, I couldn't wait to fix my good wheels and get back on the Gatorskin tires.

The Zaffiros skid nearly every time I apply the brakes. Maybe I don't weigh enough and should eat more Italian pasta to hold the bike down. Or maybe I should not use Zaffiros.

Oh, and they are super tight and are a real pain to get on and off the rims.... I had one puncture (really gnarly staple that would have gone through even the gatorskins) and it took me nearly half an hour on the road in the rain to get it all put back together.

      Comments about Vittoria Zaffiro Tire:

I bought these 28mm Vittoria tires to replace the cheap, 25mm that came on my single speed bike. They installed easily and are a nice improvement over the stock tires. Considering how inexpensive they are, you can't go wrong.

I've used a couple pairs of these on my commuter bikes over the years, and I think they're a great value. They wear well and have good puncture resistance. Very pleased.

            Comments about Vittoria Zaffiro Tire:

Was looking for a decent training tire and I liked the tread design of the Zaffiro. Have almost a 1000 miles on them. Rolling resistanc is average, cornering is good, and pretty stable in wet conditions. No flats yet, but the club rides haven't had many either. Only downside is they wear fast. Front tire isn't bad, but the back tire is well worn. It's flat across and a portion of the side treads are worn away. I run the tires at 120psi and I weight 175 lbs. Overall they're good for the price, but not durable enough for the whole season.

Use these on my commuter/beer bike. I've pulled pieces of glass out after a ride but never had a flat. Rolls smooth and absorbs some of the bumps. Wire bead was a pain to install.

Vittoria makes very solid tires. I've put over 2000 miles on the Rubinos on my other bike. My girlfriend has had 700c Zaffiros on her commuter and has never had any issues.

            Highly recommend.

                  Comments about Vittoria Zaffiro Tire:

I bought these tires for an old 80's vintage Trek I wanted to use as a commuter. Couldnt be happier with them. It seems to be harder to find decent 27" tires these days without spending an arm and a leg...and for the price these are a great deal. Ive used the 700c version of these on my other bike for training but had stayed away from them as they were a killer to mount. That doesnt seem to be the case with the 27's

                  Comments about Vittoria Zaffiro Tire:

I refurbished an old lugged steel frame bianchi and used these to replace the gumwall tires. They look great, and are inexpensive. No they don't have the best rolling resistance, and are slick at first, but they also don't cost $60. Commuting on expensive 700x23C is not fun, so the added width and price is very welcome.

Quality value tire for my 27" wheels. Nice soft ride. The tire I received did not have the red label as shown in the picture. I think Vittoria changed the label on the side wall this year, but maybe just on the 27". They look much nicer with the white label rather than the red, IMHO.

My review is for size 700x25c. I purchased this tires mainly for commuting and it serves the purpose well. It's kind of heavy compare to most performance-oriented road tires. But I felt a sense of toughness and much smoother ride than 700x23c Gatorskin that I had. Probably due to much more air volumn which help absorb impact on small bumps, potholes, debris, etc.
