The best mechanical brake.....easily on par with more expensive hydraulics. Even the 6" rotors will bring you to a halting stop on downhills. These brakes really give you increased confidence on the downhills making you a better rider.
Product Used For: 1 Month
Product Strengths:Very easy installation for anyone...even a caveman can do it. Greatly increased brake power over V's. Great feel, smoothness, and power. Don't skimp on cables/housing. Spend the extra money and get a good set, like Avid FMJ. The fully sealed system works excellently. The inboard and outboard adjustment knobs really are very useful. The brakes are very firm if set up correctly.
Product Weaknesses:None really. Don't be discouraged if you don't notice the increase in power instantly. These brakes need a good ride to get the rotors scuffed up and broken in.
My Bike:06 Cannondale hardtail.

i use this break with avid's flak jacket cables and housing and the speed dial SL lever. the feel and modulation are amazing. i've never gotten this type of modulation from a hydro or rim brake. people say that mechs will never catch up to hydros in terms of modulation. thats a false statement. they key is the lever and good compressionless housing. you wouldnt use a hayes lever with shimano brakes, although it could be done. taking advantage of products designed around each other is a no-brainer. buy this brake, and then do yourself a favor and get good housing and any avid lever. its like a king headset, put it on, ride it, adjust to compensate for wear-in, and then forget about it.
Product Used For: 6 Months
Product Strengths:easily servicable, easy to set up, cheap, excellent rotor design. i've used this rotor with my hayes hydros and it lent more power with less fade.
Product Weaknesses:out of the box, my caliper was bolted to the adapter incorrectly. it was an easy fix. like any disk, its hard to use with horizontal drop outs (just go for a ceramic rim and a good v-brake in this case)
My Bike:singlespeed, rigid fork, raceface ss cranks, king hubs, headset

I've used hayes mags, hayes comps, hayes nines, hayes hmx-1, magura julie, magura louise, and shimano deore disc brakes. Of all these, I prefer the avids without question. They're more adjustable, more powerful, and SO easy to maintain it's not even a tough decision. With a good set of cables/housing (nokon/XTR), they feel great and have loads of power. One of the biggest pluses is trail servicability. One time at the shore, I tore a hydro line when my bars spun after a hard crash. Had to walk out which really really sucked. I think it's more dangerous to walk some sections than ride. Now, I carry extra cables and a lengh of housing so if it ever happens again, I can fix it. Hope this review helped.
Product Used For: 2 or More Years
Product Strengths:Price, Stopping Power, Simplicity, Trail Servicability, No fade
Product Weaknesses:Not 'quite' as good at modulation as hydros. Feel of brake gets worse when the cable gets old/dirty.

Great braking control, easy to adjust just turn the dials, They look good and rotors do not fade out or overheat easily.
Product Used For: 6 Months
Product Strengths:Perfect braking. If adjusted right they can feel as good as some hydraulic brakes for a fraction of the cost.
Product Weaknesses:it takes about a week to break them in, but that is normal.
My Bike:05 specialized p.2 with lots of upgrades
