If you're in need of something affordable, but has excellent performance, check these things out. Although not as adjustable as the XT or XTR's, this V- Brake is absolutely incredible. Just upgrade the pads and you are set.
Product Used For: 1 Year
Product Strengths:Easy modulation, no scraping, fairly light weight and great power.
Product Weaknesses:Maybe a little heavy, but not much. Poor stock pads compared to kool-stop etc.

I am an avid xc and fr adict. I have a love and respect for all of the biking sports, you can't die with to manny bikes!
Product Used For: 2 or More Years
Product Strengths:This is a wounderful break for the dollar, no frils, esaly adjusted, replacement pads can be found most any ware, and they are reliable. I have had a set for years on my hard tail and they are just now ready to be replaced. If XC is your thing and you don't want to spend alot of cash you will be happy with these brakes.
Product Weaknesses:Can be dificult to set up break pads, all rim breaks slip just a little when wet or muddy.
My Bike:Specialized rock hopper and schwin moab
