Can't think of any reason to try another product. All my buds use the same stuff. Five or six guys on a thirty mile cross country ride and no problems nearly every time. What could be better ?
Product Used For: 2 or More Years
Product Strengths:XTR is simply "THE BEST". Have never experienced a failure.
Product Weaknesses:None yet.
My Bike:Litespeed MTB Hardtail

If you want products that last and perform the utmost, buy the XTR from Shimano. Considering that I got my original XTR second hand about ten years ago, they still work and perform the same and the gear teeth of the cranks are still fully functional without slippage.
Product Used For: 6 Months
Product Strengths:Lightweight, positive feel, rigid and silent. It truly deserves to be called an XTR for the benchmark in quality, longevity and performance. This is my second XTR in 10 years of riding. My original XTR crank still works perfectly except that when I upgraded my cassette from an 8 speed to a 9 speed, I encountered problems which never came out when I upgraded from a 7 speed to 8 speed. There are no more UNC 53 with 1 107 length BB which will solve the angle to shift the extra 2 small gears.
Product Weaknesses:None except the price. You have to pay for a Rolls Royce to drive one.
My Bike:I am riding a 10 year old bike (Taiwan Made) with an excellent machine welded 6 series aluminum tubing. I have logged more than 4,000 kms. on the bike over asphalt, mud and gravel and some river crossings and the frame still looks excellent. It is no wonder why most of the frame manufacturers have gone to Taiwan. The frames are reasonably priced and you can get the highest quality second to none.

light, but not worth the money. I work at a shop and we are having problems with all of the outboard bottom brackets? Will go back to the isis setup!
Product Used For: 6 Months
Product Strengths:Light and Stiff
Product Weaknesses:Bottom bracket is junk, already on second set of cups in six months? Chainrings are also junk, middle ring already needs to be replaced and I use a new chain every two months. LOL

Proprietary, expensive and rings don't last. But it is light. Why not go with another light weight crank (If it's that important to you.) Say a FSA Mega Exo that has standard bolt pattern.
Product Used For: 6 Months
Product Strengths:Light Stiff
Product Weaknesses:Middle ring wore out like in 3 months ! $$ Replacement. Exclusive 102 pattern so have to use Shimano Rings $$$ (the same buttery ring again !)
Switched to a Hone/IE XT crank. Heavier but has lasted longer and replacement rings are cheap. It actually is a little stiffer that XTR. And then I put a 42 outer to even out the shifting pattern.

Really bad because of the replacement rings issue. I'm actually going to get a XT 760 to use since I can find diffenent rings for BCD 104/64 to adjust for differing areas I ride in.
Product Used For: 1 Year
Product Strengths:Light, Stiff And Pretty
Product Weaknesses:Proprietery, 102 BCD, $$$ replacement rings, no one makes except Shim.
So... You can't get a different size ring for your outer for instance if you want
to use it more and reduce middle ring wear.
